Brunswick history article.................

Anybody else think a big part of pool's problem is with there being so many Gold Crown tables that are so well built around that there wasn't a market for another big corporation to manufacture tables and promote pool? Tables made since 1962 are still a big percentage of tables in pool halls. Aside from manufacturers that worked with ESPN, there really wasn't been any manufacturer to get behind pool for decades until Diamond.

There is a lot of potential for a company like Diamond to promote the game. Maybe Rasson will make a push if they want a bigger share of the American market. We need more big events.

I think there needs to be more events targeting advanced amateur players who would flock to big events with a real shot at the money. There is a lot of potential to increase involvement for the group that can make pool more wide open like poker. Be it by handicapping by fargo rate or whatever.

There are two good question for us: What was Brunswick's role in creating or sustaining pool's popularity? Do we need manufacturers to step up and do more? Personally, I think events follow popularity. I believe grass roots support is what we need now, and this boils down to making pool tables available to the masses. My feeling is that Brunswick has already created and proven the business model.
