Brunswick slate compatibility

Does anyone out there know the compatibility of slate between 9 foot brunswick pool tables. I have a gold crown 3 and am looking at buying a cheap used 1911 brunswick to swap the slate and wanted to confirm I'd be able to mount the rails without any alterations? Thanks in advance

The slate is most likely different as the 1911 table most likely has T rails that bolt into the side of the slate vs Gold Crown rails which bolt through the slate.

Ive seen gold crown tables with one of the slates swapped out from another gold crown, and even then they don't match up. How bad is the slate you have? Is one piece messed up , or are all the 3 pieces junk. You should post the question about what your looking to do over on the ,,Ask the Mechanic part of the forum and make sure to detail whats wrong and what year table you have. Many good folks to give you the right advise and guide you along. May even meet up with someone who might have just what your looking for.

The tables done, just redid it and made it work but one of the brunstone pieces, the center one was swapped out with actual slate. It was was a huge pain to match them up and lots of repairs were done. So just trunk to avoid that the next go round and found a 1911 table for a hundred bucks so thought it. Might be worth it for the slate alone. Thanks for the info guys appreciated!

This is why it is recommended to replace all three pieces (matched set) if one needs to be replaced. The slate is machined as one piece when it's milled then cut into 3,

Yep. Buying just one piece could be crapshoot.

Yep, that's why I thought I'd ask about the compatibility. Figured I'd take all 3 peices from the 1911 if possible. Ended up turning out good and plays like a dream but probably had 20 hours in slate repair and leveling.

Here's the brunswick 1911 disassembled. It looks like it has rail mount holes? In that case would it natch up with gold crown rails?

Here's my gold crown just refelted, new superspeed rails. Extended subrails, 4 1/8 inch pockets Stripped clean and restained.

Yeah the old 1911 slates will not work for you. The general rule of thumb for slates is anything produced after WWII will be vertical rail bolt mounts, prior to that time the T-rail design ruled with horizontal mount bolts that secured into inserts inside the slate.

It is possible to take mismatched slates to a woodworking co. and have the wood backing attached to the slate evened out on a thickness sander. Run the slates wood side up through the sander until all pieces are the same thickness.

Pretty big hassle and I’m sure most wood workers wouldn’t be keen on lugging around 250 pound pieces of slate snd running them through their sander.
