Brunswick Spectator Chair or Clone?

I'm looking at these used spectator chairs, which look in the photos like Brunswick chairs, but they lack the nameplate. Could they be clones, or do you think they are Brunswick? Did anyone make clones of these? If so, what are they worth?

Thanks,

jv

Don't look like Bruns. to me. Brunswicks(not the REALLY old ones) almost always have the metal badge in the backrest. There are a ton of copies like this. These guys will know FOR SURE: https://www.billiardrestoration.com/antique-pool-accessories.htm

My .02...'Back in the day', it was not common practice to stain cheaper, lighter colored wood to look like richer, more expensive wood, as is common today...

If this is dark stain (mahogany, etc) over "lighter toned" wood, which appears to be the case from the worn corner of the arm rest, then it's not actually cherry/mahogany/walnut, as would've been used awhile back.

That said, take this for what it's worth, because I don't have a clue what Brunswick's practices were. Or even the purported age of this chair for that matter.

The older Brunswick chairs have the name plate and also a brass foot plate. These look to be made the same, bad front leg design and all. I mean bad because when get up from the chair it has a tendency to flip forward due to the foot rest extending a few inches out from the legs. Easy fix though with a couple of blocks of wood for stability under the ends of that foot rest board.

Maybe American Heritage.

Here's my Brunswick

No doubt, those Brunswick chairs are nice, and that the ones I found are not the same as the current, or recent Brunswick chairs. Then again, the Brunswicks' street price is in the $700+ neighborhood, I think I can live with these!

The features are such that it's fair to say that these are copies of the Brunswick Centennial Player's Chair, or perhaps they are based on the same prototype; or perhaps at one time it was a common design.

These have an almost identical set of features, including the number of slats in the back, the number of rungs in the bottom, the foot rest, the drawer. These lack the brass plate on the foot rest, and as someone pointed out, the back's slat spacing is different.

I have searched the web high and low and I can't find an example of this chair. Maybe they are old? I don't know, I haven't picked them up yet.

I think you will proud of them once you have them at home. If they rock at all or squeak very bad, you might be looking at a resto project. The chairs you are looking at are much better than the other pair of chairs shown. Much stronger... Enjoy....

The chairs do not appear to be Brunswick but so what? Your derriere truly won't notice any difference.
It's not like you are buying a counterfeit pool cue, plus you didn't want to spend $$ for orig. Brunswick.
If you like 'em, that's all that matters; if you hadn't, then you wouldn't have even composed this thread.

Well, I got them! And they are big, and heavy! FWIW, I got the two chairs and a nice, half-round, wall-mount table that has notches for cues, for $300.

They appear to be American Heritage, since the hard leather coasters in the drink holder recesses are stamped as such. (They don't fit exactly.) However, these are not the same as current catalog American Heritage "King Chairs," as the rung count and configuration is different.

They are most likely made in China, as the cushions are marked as such.

One seat is installed backwards, an easy fix. The chairs are assembled with screws, so no fine cabinet work here!

I'm happy. I'd love the Brunswick chairs, but they are not in the budget.

BTW, does anyone know how to release the drawers? They are mounted on drawer slides, but it's not obvious to me how to release them.

Thanks,

jv

(pic is not my place, it's where I picked them up.)
