1. are they available in the quality of years ago
2. i have these on my table now, dont think they need replacing but wondering if i can buy superspeed monarch rubber like was made by brunswick in the early part of the 19th century.
3. my current question: i peeled back all the cloth to see what shape my cushions were in. generally speaking they played well, good rebound, and angles looked true. after pulling back the cloth i then discovered the cushions were likely the original 1926 rubber. what concerns me is presence of a extremely powdery dust coating the surface of the cushion. it almost looks like gold/tan chalk dust but this table has green simonis. there is no green chalk dust, just goldish dust and i cant say for sure that it is chalk dust. now the cushions seem pliable, no cracking or pitting anywhere. four look a bit faded while the other two are very nicely pinkish/red color. a ball bounces easily off the nose when cupped in my palm and dropped onto the nose of the cushion from about 3 inches up. my concern is that i can wipe down these cushions with just a damp rag. then reglue the bottoms as they are loose in a few spots.

4. any other ideas or advice to be aware of.

Monarch cushions

Hi Gerald,
From your description it sounds like your cushions are on borrowed time. I have played on these cushions before, they in many cases lasted much longer than current cushions. Maybe RKC has some insight into why that is? I have been using current Superspeeds in the past since the Artemis rubber is sooo expensive. Recently I have had trouble with the extrusions being very sloppy which makes the rubber tough to install well (since you don't have a straight top cushion edge to line up). RKC had suggested to try the Diamond Black cushions, and I have been using them ever since as my high end cushions. That is what my playing table has on it. Best cushion I have ever played on.

Going from our conversation last week, I would say add your 1/4" facing and recover. When I get down to Memphis we can play some, see how the table is acting without the subrail extension. If you choose to have the subrail extension done at some point when the cushions are breaking down, we can put the Diamond Black cushions on and adjust the pocket angles at the same time. Feel free to call me anytime, 215-622-8899. I have your number so I will be in touch the week before I fly down to schedule a visit. Talk to you shortly.

what do you think about a damp cloth. shouldnt hurt the rubber jus to wipe off the surfaces, you think.

Cleaning up the rubber shouldn't be a problem, and you can always try rubbing in liquid glycerin to revive some of the bounce back into the cushions.
Takes about a day or so extra, but if it's got enough true gum rubber, and not all the fillers, it should bounce back, unless it's been majorly neglected and abused.
Just another thought.

Do you have a brand that works best for you? Where do you get it? Thanks for the tip, I have a set of cushions that I want to try this one asap.
