Brunswick Table Repair/Restore

Hello,

I have a post on here for identification, but wanted to get started on the restoration process. I do not intend to do too much at this point other than clean, pockets, felt and a new bed.

Cleaning - Simple at this point a little water and liquid soap mix to dampen a cloth. Quick dry cloth afterwards.

Pockets - New replacements from here.

Slate -
Now for the question. This table at this point to my knowledge did not have a slate. The only information I have is it was Astralite, a slate alternative at the time. I know nothing about slate. The table is small non regulation. I have to assume the astralite was thinner. Is slate always the same thickness? Can I get slate custom to my table size? If its around 6 ft, can it be one piece? Lastly what are we talking about in terms of cost? If slate is out of the question then what alternatives are there?

Felt - Once I have the slate or alternative. Would it be easy to do the job myself. And are there good walkthroughs or vidoes out there.

Thanks to all that have helped so far and the help on this post.

I hate to say it, but in my opinion, unless the table has sentimental value, I think you'd be better off investing your money into another table. One of the reasons I say that is the strength of the frame. If the table was not made for a slate playing surface, the frame may not be structural strong enough to support the weight of slate. Non-slate tables are typical much lighter constructed. Some are not really even designed to be able to replace the cloth. I could be wrong, and if you have pictures or a model on the tables, we might be able to better help you, but that's typically my opinion on non-slate tables.

Here are some pics: The table is solid & weighs a lot and has multiple rails for support of the bed, sorry no pictures on that. I guess it has some sentimental value, but I agree, I am not going to spend a ton to fix it. I am new to this and have no idea on the cost to get new slate or alternative for a table this size. I love the old look of it and the memories. If I were to get another table I would still look at getting an older one. Any help/direction would be appreciated. I tried a couple online antique restores and they were no help in identification or restoration options.

Thanks!
