There exists some vague ideal of co-operation between business owners and their customers. I’ll provide you with something you want and you keep me in business. Doesn’t always happen.
When I got started as an 11 table poolhall a block away from the existing snooker hall - known as The Goose and many previous names - I was charging $8.oo per hour and they charged $6.60. Gary, the owner of The Goose, decided to raise his rates to $7.20; a penny a minute. When the first of his regulars saw that increase, he threw a fit and said he would never come back. Then he went down the block and conspired with other players arriving to do the same. Gary went back to his old rates after four days.
Watching this helped me learn to make my own decisions.
