Bulletproof tips install question

I have been installing tips for 15 plus years and have never had this issue before.

So bulletproof break tips are a new craze in my area and I've started installing them, however about 1 in 5 come off. I have tried Loctite gel, Loctite 454 and still have issues. I should say most of the issues is with predator rush shafts.

I don't want to carry this tips if this is a common issue. I have zero issues with Taom, White Diamond, or Samsara break tips.

thanks,

Have you tried roughening the bottom of the tip with sandpaper and maybe a few small cuts?

I had a similar issue and switched to Dap to install bulletproof.

My first white diamond popped off. Replaced it and it was fine. Never know I guess.

I use gorilla gel and have not had any come off, but I’ve heard people say the same about loctite gel.

A guy I know was installing them by hand and they were popping a lot. He had better success using a fiber pad. I think his problem was getting the surfaces perfectly flat and maybe the pad helped correct the issue. I re did them for him and they have not come off. I have been using a pad with no issues plus I think it looks better.

Is the tip just popping off or is the silencer pad coming off with the tip? I have had several repairs lately with the silencer pads coming off with the tip from the factory. Calling Predator is a waste of time, they said that they do not sell the gray pads and no longer sell the red or black pads any longer. As far as warranty for their silencer pads coming loose good luck. When this happens and you call them you will know what I mean.

As for the Bulletproof tips I have not had an issue with them popping off, I use Loctite Professional.

Not a cue maker but I install a lot of tips. It can have a lot to do with how old your glue is.

I tried the loctite (forget which one now but it's highly recommended here and had a tip pop off, the first one ever. I went back to gorilla glue gel and I've not had another pop since. I usually get a new tube every 3 months. I store the tube upside down, my thinking being it won't get any air exchange on the stuff that is in part of the bottle near the tip. Who knows if this has any merit but I got in the habit. It also makes it easier to get the gel to flow without having to bang it on the counter.

The most important part is completely flat ferrule and tip. New tips are often not flat, even kamui clears (that say they are and not to sand). Mount some emery cloth on your bench and run the tips in a figure 8 while rotating them every little bit. Think like an orbital sander. Check them often and when the tip is all the same they are flat. Like a lexan will only needed to be sanded until it is a uniform matte finish. Nothing crazy aggressive, just enough to take material off.

Just the tip. A buddy suggested switching glue brands and not to use accelerator.

DAP and NO accelerator works very well IF the following are correct....must be flat, no rocking motion on dry fit. Proper pressure is applied, as in not pressing too hard BUT not too lightly either. I release the tension on my tailstock when doing tips and use my feeling as to the pressure .... do it long enough you will know what I mean. Freshness of the bottle is important. I use a sharpie and mark the date I open it and about 1.5-2 months later, I move to another bottle. As to the BK rushes...have had MANY fail right at the grey pad/fvault plate connection. As usual Predator refuses to honor their warranty. They say the grey pad is integral to their product and messing with it will void the warranty if I change or modify it BUT when the grey pad separates from the vault plate on it's own, they call it normal use and charge $$ to fix it.... Hate Predator as it is a predatory company!

I read somewhere on here to use the clear Gorilla Glue, and not super glue. It worked on my Black Ice shaft very well.

If you keep DAP (or any CA glue really) in your refrigerator, it will significantly extend shelf life. Not that it matters much given the price, but it's a trick I learned many years ago and it's served me well ever since.
