Burton Spain Cue wanted.

Hey Chris,

What kind of Paradise/Palmers do you have? I've got an interesting cue. It's a John Guffey with Burton Spain points (six points with veneers) #29 forearm...

Regards,

Steve

I have model D palmers and a Paradise with window with paradise written in it. It is one of the ones in the Palmer Paradise thread Joe put up. I am not interested in any thing but a Spain built by Burton. I also want a four point instead of six point as I want the full splice type.
Thanks,
Chris

I know where one is Chris, but he just won't part with it probably until he is dead.

I ain't sure though...contact Pelican on the board. He had one about six months ago that fit your bill...no inlays, but a pretty four point full splice that Burton did.

It went for over $400. It looked like a Spain blank cue, but I doubt it was a Spain. He built few cues with pin in the butt. Adam made some butts that are much like Spain's with the colored veneers and full splice. I read that Schuler built some cues with Adam blanks. I am wondering if that is where Paradise got the blanks that people think are Spain blanks. Did you get the picture of the Paradise with the Spain like points up yet?

The Diamond King we believe is one. Here is the problem, I talked to someone out here who made blanks, for his own cues, in the early 70's and knew Frank Paradise, he was pretty positive Frank got them from Burton.
Mark has 2 5 veneer Bushka's identical to the DK we have posted. If you looked at them side by side you would swear they were made by the same person. I think the problem with unwritten history, is just that, its unwritten.

Based on a previous e-mail you and I had. I talked to someone who claims to know Paradise's son. He talked to him recently and conveyed a few questions I had. He had no idea what a blank was, let alone where his dad got his. I was also interested in the source of the foil, and he had no clue.

Of all the Adam cues I have seen, the number of YELLOW veneers I have seen... 0.

I agree, with all the unwritten history we may never be able to totally be sure what we are looking at. Gordon Hart told me he used to have a catalog offering cue parts many years ago. Bob Meucci told me he built many point blanks for other cuemakers early on also. Verl Horn and Dan Prather provided many after those two quit. Gus Szamboti built some for others. Burton Spain built them off and on through the years. Titlist blanks were made for who knows how many years here in the USA before they were made in Japan. This would be some information I would like to document or see documented. Who made what type of blanks and what years they did it? Probably wind up like many other things on my lower priority list I never get around to.
