I'm sure this has been asked before but i couldn't find anything: what is that stuff that Balabuskha used in the windows of his cues? Looks like ribbon-like stuff used for wrapping packages.

This has been discussed many times with no answers, only guesses. George took his secrets to the grave with him.

I'm old and sometimes use a 3D pantograph. :)
Would not flat rule it out......however, doesn't seem likely.
Then again, i've only ever seen pics of GB's cues.

Wouldnt pete tascarella know?
I bet he does. I'm sure he enjoys not saying a word too. I would like to see a very high quality close up of that stuff. It's hard to guess from what little Ive seen of it what it may be.

Anyone that is alive today that knows or has a true idea that they know....my guess is we'll not hear a peep from them and it would be wise or the copycats would be flooding the market with "Buska tributes" with the foil look.
My other guess is this and only a guess because this is what creative minds do.....
I believe George saw an inexpensive decorative foil that crossed his path and he thought to himself "it would be very easy to hide the ends with an overlap of this stuff at any length cut on a round object" and the rest, as they say, is history.
It was probably on a gift box lid he saw that was already used in that fashion only on a much larger diameter than a cue.
That's my guess thrown in the ring..........

George Balabushka
Was "The Man"
So many neat ideas and really cool things He put in His cues ....
I read in the Blue Book....
Bill Stroud and Dan Janes went to his shop to talk with him regarding cue building,
And George took a sheet or cloth and covered up His Lathe and equipment"
