Bustamante and Frost Play One-Pocket at Q Master

I went to Q-Master in Virginia Beach to play in the weekly 9-ball tournament last night but found it difficult to concentrate on my game because Francisco Bustamante and Scott Frost were playing one-pocket on one of the tables in the tournament room. They were playing for $400.00 a game plus Scott had $100.00 on the side with one of Bustamante's guys. They were playing even by the way. Needless to say, I lost my two matches quickly so I could watch the action more carefully (at least that's what I told myself...no need for unnecessary distractions...).
For a while, Scott was down $2500.00 but then he slowly started coming back. Then it was back and forth. Unfortunately, I had to leave so I don't know what the outcome was. Bustamante won the Master's tournament there last week. That was good for $5000.00. I guess Scott is trying to get a piece of the prize money.

I would of guessed Frosts' experience makes him the favorite in this match but Busta shoots crazy strong so who knows.

The only video of Busta playing one pocket I know of is a Railbird video of him and Efren and I don't know how that one came out.

Anyone know how well Busta moves? Efren and Jose play awesome 1-hole but Santos is a great nine baller who tends to get beat when playing one pocket against top competition because of his lack of experience (Tony Chohan beat him pretty easily)

Please post results of the match-up if you find out, Templar.

I saw Tony Fargo (I think that's his name) and Cliff Joyner play some good one pocket a couple of years ago at J.O.B. Seems like they played for about 24 hours or so.

Scott and Bustamante played at DCC.I want to say Scott came out ahead. Bustamante moved ok, but still has some to learn as far as moves go. But of course his firepower is out of this world.

Don't kid yourself that bustamante moves OK, he moves alot better than ok and IMHO he's a threat on any given day to beat any player...

I agree. However his moving is not up there with the upper echelon of one pocket players i:e, Efren, Cliff. But his sheer firepower is out of the world and that gets him through. But thats my two cents. :-)

And that's a fact! I can sure think of a lot easier games for a player to match up with than the incredible Francisco Bustamante!

Last year at the U.S. Open, Scott Frost got into a marathon match with Virginia's colorful player Pookie at Q-Masters which lasted well after the U.S. Open ended. I wonder how much the table time ended up being. :p

Francisco is most definitely a threat in any game, but having the endurance to keep up with these young guns is quite a different story. ;)

Here's a picture shown below of Scott Frost and Keith at last year's Carolinas Open. I just received a flier in the mail today reminding me of the upcoming Carolinas Open, September 6-7, at Fast Eddie's Sports Bar and Grill in Goldsboro, North Carolina. One-pocket tournament will occur on September 6-7 with $5,000 added [based on a 64-player field], and the 9-Ball tournament will occur on September 8-11 with $15,000 added [based on a 128-player field].

One-pocket format is a race to 3, double elimination, finals race to 5. 9-Ball format is a race to 11, double elimination, finals race to 15.

The tournament director is Buxton Turner. For more information, call Buxton at (757) 376-1076 before September 3rd. After September 3rd, call (919) 759-0071. Both tournaments are a $75 entry fee. Hotel accommodations must be booked 3 weeks in advance to get the special rate: Irish Inns $49.95 per night, (919) 778-1400; and Holiday Inn Goldsboro, $65 per night, (919) 751-1999.

The tournament promoters are Wendy Peaden, Billy Peaden, Dave Kendrock, Frank Owens, and Gene Hooker. The players always flock to the Carolinas Open where the folks are friendly and the action is plentiful! And believe me, there is nothing finer than a tournament in the Carolinas. ;)

Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention that Scott Frost won the Carolinas Open one-pocket tournament last year! ;)

I saw the video of Bustamante and Efren and it is pretty wild. JJ Jenkins is doing a highlight reel of one-pocket matches and shots and some of this match is on it. Efren is leading 3 games to 1 and plays a safe on Bustamante. Bustamante makes a wild shot and runs 9 and out (he owed one) then he breaks makes a ball on the break and runs 8 and out. Now it is tied 3 games a piece with Efren breaking. Efren makes a ball on the break and runs 8 and out. The whole match of 7 games takes around a half hour.

Wayne, I've got that one. Yeah, probably a land-speed record for 7 games!
But in the final game, there's some safety play and Efren runs out after a tough, missed cut by Busty. In fact, they tried to set up the shot several times after the match and he still couldn't make it.

You ain't kidding. When Efren looks in the mirror, he sees Bustamante.
