I have been seriously think of getting a Butterfly Pool Cue Case, because of the the weight, and because I sometime walk both way to play pool. Round tip is about 3.25 miles.

I have been dieting so my weight is heading down, but both my KNEES are shot, torn meniscus, and arthritis, and I am try to avoid bilateral Total Knees Replacement for a long time.

So I will ask the owner what are their LIKES, DISLIKES, and LAST what Improvement they would make to their Butterfly Pool Cue Case if they had it to do again. Tell us your Brand of Butterfly Pool Cue Case .

The Original Silver Foxes made in Wahington State were great, also the one made in LA by the 3C Player Allen Gilbert where also great, but Mr. Gilbert Died, and so did his cases.

that was the first that came to mind; I had a Silver Fox BR2, but they are becoming a bit harder to come by.....

ask Joe (Neilsen from the link in my other post) how his rates vs. the Silver Fox....he'll know, and he's a straight shooter.

If both your knees are blown out and still exercising, good for you.
The weight difference between a regular and butterfly case isn't that much of a difference that it will take a huge load off your knees.

Besides, they keep flying away on you.

I have a 4x8 and are great cases. Storage wise not so great as there isn't any support built into the case and leaving them leaning against a wall for extended periods of time is not good.

I have a 4x4 or more Sterling butterfly I'm going to be getting rid of (no good for 30" shafts). Only a month old. PM me if you want to check it out.

Thumbs up to that. I have one I don't use anymore since I got my Scruggs. I just don't trust something I paid that much for in a soft case but they are very well mad and a good price. The jb cases look like the caddilac of butterfly cases though.

I'm currently using a butterfly case I got on sale for $30 a couple years ago. I won't be getting rid of it for a while. Its light, paid for, holds all my stuff, and did I mention its paid for?

Compared to a butterfly, some of the top-loaders have the advantage of being a cue-caddy durring a match (self supporting on the floor.) {Rather than looking for the side of a table to rest the cue when not in use.} I haven't seen a butterfly that can do that.

The new butterfly cases made by John are now designed to be able to access your cues from the end, standing up like a top-load...as well as the traditional way of accessing the butterfly interior. They are also designed to be expandable, if the need arises...sorta like a loose-leaf binder in concept. Plus, I believe he has added something to stiffen up the sides, likely adding a bit more protection, and prevent 'sagging' from standing the case on end. Also, should you rather have the storage pockets in the interior, instead of the exterior...he can do that too.

He's really put a lot of thought into what would make for a better butterfly case.

I have the brown, older version of that Lucasi butterfly case.

The only two things I do not like are the lack of support, which can be cured by just using the strap to hang it on a chair after you remove your cues, and the feel that it doesnt have as much protection against things hitting the case. If someone was to say, close a car door on this case, it might not keep the cues from getting a ding or something.

Other than that I love mine. I'm careful enough to not let those things happen on purpose, but can't control accidents.

Its got BOATLOADS of storage. I keep my APA patches, cards, 2 different shaft slickers, 2 or 3 Porper tools, a measles Aramith cue ball, a 5 cue Qclaw, 2 magic racks, 3 darts, a cue cube, 4 pieces of chalk, a dent buffer, a jump cue butt, and a slip on cue bridge, with some room to spare in the bottom 2 zip pockets...in addition to the 3 butts, 5 shafts it holds. Storage man!!!

I agree with the above post. I purchased a JB Butterfly about 3 weeks ago. Was concerned about cue safety, but John's butterfly is very impressive. Especially the padding on the sides and the surprisingly light final weight. Sterling one looks good at the price point, but I don't mind having paid for the quality I got. Here's the link again:

Just to be accurate, Allen Gilbert did not make these cases, American Vinyl Products from the Los Angeles area, owned by George Aronek, made these great cases. Allen help sell/promote them and probably helped with ideas for the design/functionality. George is still alive but the business is no more.

As for walking cases, I would suggest the Sterling Wave case because it's inexpensive, fairly light weight and has two straps so you can were it like a back pack. Much easier on your back and shoulders when walking any length. The butterfly cases, although great cases that others have mentioned, has only the one strap. I have a great butterfly case from JB Cases that I love, I just wouldn't want to walk 3 miles with it loaded (4x8).

American Vinyl Products was the company I could not think of. Walking 3.25 Miles is not a Big DEAL, as a Kid it was 5 miles one way to School, it was thought a Gator & Water Moccasin Infested Swamp, during the Rainy Season we play a game of Hid, and don't get Struck by lightning.

IMO, backpack straps and as small as possible would be key. My JB disappears on my back and it is a 3 x 6 with 2 cues and a Jump in it.

A 1 x 2 with thin back pack straps would feel lighter than your wallet!
