Buying a cue in USA

Hi,

After a 15 years stop I started again playing pool and bought a table for my home.

I've been playing for a couple of months with a really low budget Fury cue then last week I borrowed a Classic Gladiator stick and I felt my game was really better (particularly the cue ball control and the english) that's why I chose to spend some money on a new cue stick.

My budget will be in the $250 range because for what I could understand you could buy a good stick with that money and do not need to choose something more expensive so early.

When trying to choose which cue stick to buy everybody suggest to try some and choose the one that 'feels' better among all other common considerations.

So I'm asking you to please suggest a couple of big places where I could go and try some before buying (I'd also like some suggestion in what to try).

If it is possible stick to places in big city in the west or east coast.

UPDATE -
I forgot to mention I'm asking for a place in USA becuase I'm planning a trip there in May.

Thank you in advance,

Marco.

In that price range I think you will pretty much only find production cues like McDermott etc.. in the shops, all pretty much probably comparable to your Fury. Go over to the For Sale section here and look over some of the custom cues , you will find some around that price range from time to time, in fact right now there is some Mike Stacey lower end cues for $275! thats what you need, Stacey makes a quality players cue.

the best place to try cues isn't at a store, its at your local pool hall. ask your friends on your league teams, the people you occasionally play for small change with for fun, etc. of coarse if you just want to demo some production cues, ozone billiards in kennesaw, GA, about 30 miles north of atlanta, has some demo cues (www.ozonebilliards.com) and i'm sure seyberts in Coldwater, MI, about 100 miles west of detroit, (www.seyberts.com) or muellers in Lincoln, NE (www.poolndarts.com) have that as an option as well.

For that money, I wouldn't be buying new. I'd be looking for an older McDermott or Meucci. Most folks will sell with a return allowed (as long as there is no damage), just in case you don't like the hit or its different than you expected. Myself, as well as many others, have cues such as these that they would sell. If I were looking for new, I'd call Billiard Warehouse. They did a bunch of limited edition Lucasi's that aren't bad for the money. I know the guy running the joint and I'd recommend him.

you can get a pred sneaky used for about 200 if you look in the right places... i'd suggest that over any other cue in that price range.

if you're looking for new cues, mcdurmotts hit nice

Well, let's talk about right places then..

I don't have anything against buying a good second-hand cue.

Thank you.
