buying hometable

hey guys,
i decided i want a pooltable in my new house! i'm not new to the game, i play on a very regular basis and i really like playing. i'm not familiar with owning a table myself though, and i have some questions, i wanna do this right :).
first of all the size. the room is not too big unfortunately, and at a certain part the room is only just under 12 feet wide. the 12 feet width is only for about half of the table though, the other half is about 14 feet. i know this is a bit too small for a 7 feet, but i really dont like the idea of buying only a 6 feet table. i thought maybe play the rail-sidepocket shots with a smaller cue or something. is it gonna be a real ballbreaker if i throw in a 7 feet? how annoying you guys think it'll be to not have enough room? me and my friends just gonna play the table for fun, have a few beers etc. we're not buying the table to really improve our game or anything.
second the financial part. i reckon we got about $1000-1200 to spend, we can stretch it if necessary, but this is the amount we like to be spending on the table. for this amount we can only buy a second-hand ofcourse. i dont want anything but slate. what should i be looking for? an older, high quality coin-up, or some simple home-table? i think it would be best if i just buy the table from someone, instead of buying it secondhand from a shop? will save me quite some dough right?
and if i found a table that looks right, what should i be paying attention to really make sure it's a good deal? should me and my friends try to move and set up the table ourselves, or hire a mechanic? remember we dont have a big budget, we're just students. maybe it would be wiser for example to spend that money on some new simonis cloth to make it play better?
well i really hope you guys can help me out a bit. i'm real excited about this! thanks.

do you have a garage or basement?
you could put a bigger table in the garage.

I have had friends who had to use a short stick because they did not have enuff room in their house. it got aggravating sometimes, but I guess It's better than nothing.

I personally have a 3 bedroom house. none of the rooms were big enuff except the living room. so I turned the master bedroom into the living room and put the pool table in the living room and moved my bedroom into one of the smaller bedrooms.
mabey this could be an option?

I don't think you will like a 6 footer.
a 7 is the absolute least I would go.

I have an 8 and wish it was a 9.

if you are going to spend that much money. I would go to a dealer.
you can have them install it for you. it would suck to spend alot of money and the cloth not lay right and the table be unlevel.

You most likely won't be happy with that set-up. I always figure minimum 65" all the way around the table. In your case, 144" - ~38" width of the table only leaves you with 106"/2 = 53". Standard cue lentgth being 58", therfore for all rail shots on half your table would get frustrating to me. The 14' portion of the room allows 65" on both sides which is perfect.

I would look at other possibilities if it were me.

Here is the room requirements for a pool table. If there is a billiard store near you, go shop and you can ask questions. And also see what kinda of good tables there are. I would stay away from the Walmart, K-mart, sport stores ect... Top tables I would buy in this order would be Brunswick, Olhuasen and Gandy. People on here say Diamonds are good too, but I've never played on one. I also would get the 9ft table, if your room is not big enough, then get the biggest you can. I hope this helps.
