CAD Question....

Ok I've gotten as far as making all the cylinders and all to the right dimensions and all that...

But I still don't know how to 1) make points (do I need to draw lines on the surface of the forearm cylinder? -- whenever I draw lines they just end up inside the cylinder somehow) 2) add wrap texture 3) taper the shaft, etc....

I think i read somewhere on AZ that it is probably best to make some 2D drawings on some other program and then sort of "apply" them to the surface of the cylinders and they will wrap around and create the imagery in that way...

Anyone know how to do that? If it helps, I'm working on Turbo CAD Mac Pro v2.0 -- but any CAD help in general is appreciated...

To taper the butt and shaft you have to use the "revolve" tool. You can either redraw the entire cue, using the revolve as teh first feature, or, you can use the revolve tool now and cut away the extra material. The revolve command is icon under the sphere icon.

I'm not sure if this program is a solid modeling program or not, so the next step might not be valid, but from the icons I see, I think it is a solid modeling program.

In order to cut away the material, I believe you have to use a merge command. This will combine the features into one. You want to merge the shape you revolved (the taper) with your existing non-tapered shape. But when you merge them, you actually want to use the revolve to "cut away" from the existing shape. This command looks like it is the last icon under the sphere icon, with the plus on it. And I see a flyout on it, so it should have at least two merge options, one bieng "cut away material" and the other being "join material".

I have never used this program, but I use Pro/Engineer every day on my day job, and am quite proficient at it.

Thanks! I'll try that once I get the chance and let you know how it goes....

Still dunno how to do that "application of 2D drawing to 3D surfaces" trick, though...
