Calgary to Adelaide (cue concern)

Ok I have a really nice custom made cue that I love and shoot with here in Calgary. It has 9 birdeye maple points on ebony, silver celtic knotwork rings and gold celtic crosses, ect...I am moving to Adelaide Australia in early February and I am not sure if I should take this main cue or leave it. I will be gone for at least 18 months and am concerned about what the difference in climate, humidity, ect... might do to the cue. Also taking the cue I would have to check it as they no longer allow a person to take on cues as carry on so it could get damaged in transport maybe or stolen by the bagage staff.

Anyone know if I should really be worried about the cue when it comes to climate and humidity between Calgary and Adelaide? Wood shrinking/expanding and the like? Calgary is really dry when it comes to climate.

I would be more worried about the cue disappearing. I would ship it ahead of time. A lot of people lose a lot of nice cues with the airline.

climate in Adelaide is similar to southern california...lows are about 40/45 degrees and highs get up to 95 in the summer.... Adelaide is on the ocean so there is some moisture. i take my cues with me on almost every trip to Australia. i found a "hockey" bag ( approx. 40" long x 16") easily found in sporting goods store...(being from Canada I would think you could esily find one up there...)which allows me to put a small 2x4 case and my 3x6 hand tooled leather case with 3 cues (10 to 25 years old) in my check- in bag. i pack my clothes around the case. i have been taking trips thruout SE asia and south pacific and have never had a problem with cue loss. i would NEVER check -in just a cue case or a bag that looks like one!!!
note* i do carry a bunch of insurance just in case!!!(my package is worth about 8,000...)

To back up what ajrack is saying: I am an Australian living in the UK and I have been back and forth a fw times. On all of those occasions I have taken my guitar and checked it in the hold.

I have found that as long as you leave it in the case for about 12 hours when you arrive, everything is cool.

Don is right on the money though about airport/handler theives.
