Calm Heart - Calm Mind

Some days I just don't feel the force at all and I am all over the place. Weirdness creeps into my fingers (quiet you) and I cant shake it no matter how long I practice.

Usually when this happens I just go back to school. I practice mechanics. How am I stepping into a shot? How long is my bridge for this mess? Do I even have two feet? What's that smell?

SO I am in my head and not letting the kung fu inside me just take care of the rack.

Question: "What is your technique for climbing out of this kind of weirdness?"

Thank you,

Lesh

great question, one of the thingz i do is focus strictly on my breathing and try and lower my heart, u have to train on how to block negative b4 they enter your mind... next thing u know ,you are back to your basics during a match which sux worse than scratching on the break and giving efren ball in hand.... train your mind to expell thoughts like anti-virus protection does for computers . Attacks it when it happens..... hope this helps .....breathe n train to block out negatives thought , if u cant do that ur game will stall and u will b mentally weak......

Take the attitude of a pro, not an amateur, and just be as precise as you possibly can and force yourself to believe in yourself.

I find when I'm in this place, it can be greatly enhanced, and kept going longer by my mental condition. If I don't watch it, as a friend of mine calls it "I'm mind F@#cked". Once the mental part starts to go, so does the physical part. In the past I just played through it and it would pass. Me, I don't put in the table time as much as I used to due to work, but still expect the same results. My consistency has fallen way off due to my lack of table time. I think I'll keep my day job a while longer.:)

Thank you (all) for the input. I guess everyone sort of hangs in limbo about what the recipe is for finding that wondrous state of being known in some circles as Dead-Stroke. Where you are just so connected to your known ability, your equipment and the table environment that its auto-pilot. Balls go in because they are supposed to, Im in stroke.

I sometimes find myself sweating (literally) in some matches which, honestly, mean nothing to me. Yet, Im nervous... WTF? I used to get shot at for a living... cool and collected. Slip into a 40 degree cut up table from 4 feet away and Im all "HUH? DONT LOOK RIGHT.... FROM ANYWHERE!"

This is likely a symptom of me needing to take a week off pool.

Thanks again!

When in the "funk" as I call it I do a simple relaxation technique and it helps me get out of my own head by putting my mind on something else...this may sound weird but it works for me...I breath in a deep breath and as I breath in I imagine only the color white...then I exhale and imagine only the color black...I'll do this for about a minute (or more if needed) again...it may sound weird but it works for me...I learned it while i was in the Army to get over the mental hurdle of running long distances and just adapted it to pool...it gets you in a relaxed rhythm..

You dont find dead stroke, dead stroke finds you. The best you can do is practice enough so that you are confident that you dont need to be in dead stroke in order to run racks and win.

Be patient though, it takes time to develope the same way it takes time for a seed to grow into a full grown tree. Its ok for a seed to be a seed. Imagine how a seed would feel if it wanted to all of a sudden be a tree in an instant. The futile attempt would probrably cause extreem anxiety and frustration. It might even decide just to quit growing.

Be patient and keep practicing. You just need to put in the hours imo.
