I just thought I would let you guys know about a new inlay material I am stocking. Below is a letter I sent out to my customers about it earlier.

!!!!!!!! NEW BONE IVORY SLABS !!!!!!!!!

We now have some new real bone ivory slabs. They average about 7/8" wide by 8" long and 3/16" thick. This is the best substitute for elephant Ivory I have seen. It is a creamy off white material with a slight yellowish color like some ivory tusks have. It works almost identical to elephant ivory when machining. It is bleached bone from the camel, so it is a renewable source as camels are used for domestic pack animals in the East and are not endangered. The slabs are large enough to get a couple of normal floating points out of each.

INTRODUCTORY PRICE:

$12 each....

That is less than $2 per square inch. Less than 1/2 the cost of Elephant ivory.

BEST DEAL:

10 slabs for $100

Could you post a couple of pictures side by side with ivory for color sample.

I am also interested to see what it looks like. Does bone have any waste on it - ie pith or discolorations? How porous? Do you have a picture of two of finished cues using it that you could post or pm?

How does it compare to cow femur bone. I have used that in the past and it was pretty good. Cheap also.

The slabs would just appear stark white because of the bleaching. But inside it has a yellowish tint like older ivory has. So pictures won't help much. I might show a cue once completed.

I has almost no pithing and fairly consistent color once you cut into it. It is solid material and works and sands almost indentical to elephant. If you have seen those scrimshawed bone tusks on ebay that are made of bone glued up like and elephant tusk that is camel bone. No pictures yet.

Haven't tried it. Can you get a slab that wide without pithing in cow bone? The camel are very solid like the better part of Moose antler trunk. If you have seen walrus ivory and the whiter elephant ivory it falls right in between the two in color.

I took a picture of the butt sleeve inlaid with camel bone but can't figure out how to paste the picture here. How do I do it? The insert image button here, wants a web address for the picture and I just have it on my desktop.

This is like the blind leading the blind or something like that. MIKE - HELP!!!! until then try going to "additional options" (its below "reply to thread" box), click on Manage Attachment, click Browse, choose the file off your computer, click on the file, picture needs to be jpeg or gif, click upload and it "should" attach itself to the reply to thread - just need to make sure its below 10k or something small. If I have messed you up, I apologize just tried it once and think that was how I did it. If you want to email me direct through your email software my email address is cuemaker@johnmaddencues.com. And thanks.
