camel tour

Fraud, breach of contract, promoters not playing nicely with sponsors, blah, blah, blah.

Panozzo over at Billiards Digest probably said it best:

"The Camel Pro Tour, having separated itself from the Professional Billiard Tour three years earlier, finally pulls the plug completely on pro pool. Several months later, the PBT’s lawsuit against RJ Reynolds Tobacco Co., alleging fraud and breach of contract, is finally decided. A jury awards the PBT $880,000 in damages."

I think Helfert has posted about this before.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly, Mackey ended up with a good bit of the settlement loot and retired to a golf course in FL.

Pool pros lost their tour and continued to work against each other...surprise, surprise....
 
the government also was forcing tobacco companies to cut back on their sports promotions. RJReynolds had to choose between pool and NASCAR. Pro Pool didn't do anything to gain much support from them with all their antics.

And yes, it was a very good tour. I had the chance to attend a few events, and they were very well run. In fact, one of my first dates with my (now) wife, was to take her for a weekend of pro pool at a Camel event.
