Camelia, Dalbergia Cearenses aka Bois Violet, Violetta or Brazilian Kingwood a true member of the rosewood family from Brazil. The heartwood is purple and rose with white sapwood. This is one of the finest members of the dalbergia family that also includes Brazilian Rosewood and Tulipwood. These are members of the rosewood family that don’t loose their colors as they oxidize. Usually not found in wide or long material, its best uses are parts for musical instruments, knife handles, cue sticks and inlays. This rosewood is extremely rare and seldom is for sale. The tree is rather small and pieces this size are unusual. Maintains its color indefinitely, unlike Camatillo (Mexican Kingwood).
These pieces were originally to be used for window muttens and mullens and they are VERY straight and well seasoned for over 50 years.
They would make the perfect full-splice or one piece cue.
Smells just like Brazilian Rosewood when cut.
