Can any DCC regulars compare it to Tunica for me?

I've never been to the DCC. My first big pool event was the Southern Classic in Tunica last month.

Can anyone who has been to both of these events compare/contrast them for me?

As in:

1. Compare hotel rates and locations.

2. Compare food prices, options and locations.

3. Overall impression of the tournament format, set-up, etc.

I honestly thought Tunica was a blast, but again, I have nothing to compare it to.

I didn't mind the shuttle, as it came around every 15 minutes (at the most) for 24 hours a day. The ride was only 2-3 minutes, tops. Barely had time to get settled in the seat. So, that was good.

My hotel room was pretty nice and I was very satisfied with it. I was at the Hotel Veranda, btw.

I got completely burned out on the 3 food court offerings at the casino, but it was cheap and easily accessible. The drink refills were free and once I figured that out, I saved a lot of money, plus I generally only drink water anyway.

I had a Player's pass, as I competed in the 1-pocket and 9-ball Opens, so that allowed me to warm-up, practice and play just about as much as I liked on those nice Diamond 9-footers. I had allotted for table time in my budget and never had to worry about that at all. So, quite a bit was saved there.

All in all, I had a GREAT time at Tunica and didn't spend nearly as much money as I had budgeted for. That's gotta be a first. Lol.

I'd really like to hit DCC 2013, but since I've never been, I have no clue as to how much I need to plan on saving for.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

compair dcc/ southern classic

I have been to both events and IMO the sc was just as good as dcc the hotel was cheaper at the sc the room were about the same class and at dcc you had no min ref an at sc you did plus the weather was much better at sc and they had a lot of events for the non pro/ lower class players to do if they are going to have a sc next year I will go there instead of dcc just mo

Thanks for the response.

What did you mean by "no min ref"? I'm sure it's something simple, but I don't get what you mean.

sc/dcc compairson

at SC there was a min refrigerator in the room at dcc the one there had drinks in it and you had to pay high for them I have to go on a tight budget and carried my own cold drinks and snacks

Oooo yah. Gotcha. Yea, we had a fridge in our room at the SC. I was planning on stocking it up, but never really got around to it. Put a few things in, but didn't take full advantage.

Now that I know the set-up at the SC, I'm going to probably try to tighten my budget down even more for it.

Sct v dcc

Both were great events this year. Tunica was a first class well run event at a first class venue. If I had to pick and only attend one then it would be DCC. Three times the players and action. Many more restaurant choices and no shuttle (sort of). Weather was more of an issue in Tunica because of the shuttling. But I also liked the concurrent amateur 8 ball events at SCT. Hope they can work out some coordination with the main events so you can realistically play in both.
