I asked the guy I bought the cue from and he had no idea. Any help is appreciated.

I had three different people give me three different answers today: snakewood, cocobolo, and mexican bocote.

i agree with dick its none of those 3 woods. dick has seen alot of wood but i'm not so sure on pecan (i don't rememeber seeing pecan with black specs like that but i don't work with pecan that much). for me the clues are the grain, the black specs, and the color. the pics you have sure indicate a dalbergia for sure. the color seems to suggest honduran rosewood (dalbergia stevonsii). it can range from a lighter brown/puple to a tan/pinkish red streaks. i have both in the shop if i get a chance i'll take a pic. the guy who thought cocobolo was on the right track but the the grain is slightly different and the color is not cocobolo.

Goncalo Alves maybe??? Alves grain patterns vary a lot and could look like that.

The weight of the cue could clue you in as well. If the wood feels heavy, I would lean towards Alves. If the cue feels lighter, then Mr. Neighbors may be correct.

Its a type of Rosewood, pretty heavy. I built an 8pt fs blank out it and have quite a bit of it. Larry "63kcode" might remember what its called as he was the source of it

The cue most definitely feels heavier around the forearm/butt sleeve areas.

From my limited experience, I would agree with Pecan.
Don't ya just LOVE wood and its many mysteries? :D

I don't have a lot of experience with rosewoods, but that looks too unred to be Padauk. It does look a lot like my mom's bedroom suite, which is pecan.

Most definitely! When I first saw it, I figured it was Rosewood, but the dark color had me questioning. I will say this, regardless of what it is, it plays great! Thanks very much!
