I have a friend of mine who has just started back playing and wants some action.I thought this might be the way to go and get him some play. His name is Jerry Bento, in the 60's he was known as "The California Kid", and he is 54 years old and still plays pretty darn good on a bar box. He will not bet huge sums of money, but if the right player comes along or happens to be in the Columbia,SC area he can get a dimes ($1,000.00) worth of action or more. In case you new comers are not familiar with Jerry he can play, and he does know a lot of good players too, so he will call someone and get a line on whom ever chooses to challenge him.I'm not saying he is the greatest pool player on earth or anything, I am just letting everyone know what to expect before you reply. If anybody is interested they can contact me by e-mail and I will line it up,if possible.

this thing goes nationwide/worldwide, Jody B..........where are you or he located (state, town, etc.) or you just challenging the world ?

I thought I warned you it was against the law. Are you scoffing the law?

That does it. I'm calling the police. What state is South Carolina in anyway?

Jody,

Were you with him at the tournament in Greenville, SC this weekend? I heard Lil Jon trying to match up with him at the table beside me. I also heard that he played Greenway a 6 ahead set. I'm not sure for how many jellybeans, though. I saw Jerry play Scott Rabon in Columbia a few months ago, and I do like his style. He's definitely from the old school (a good thing IMO) and does play the bar box pretty good. He is exciting to watch.

SC/NC are decent places for action, although Lil Jon (he was in town) begged to differ. He said that he couldn't match up the past couple of days there. I heard Tony Watson offer him the 7 Saturday night, and I feel like Larry Nevel (he lives in Greenville now) may have offered him a game. I know that Lil Jon beat Tony out of about 10,000 the last time he was in town (with the 6 & last 3 I believe).

Anyway, I wish you and Jerry good luck. He definitely adds an air of excitement to the area.

Mike,
Jerry and I were room mates for a few years, I did not go to Greenville with him, but I do talk to Jerry at least once a week.He beat greenway one set and played him again Sunday night and lost.He told me just a few minutes ago that he has injured his back while playing and is going to out of action for a few days.I'll keep you posted on his injury.

I would love to play Jerry again & spot him 5 years.

If Jerry ever gets to St. Louis, we could play again. But if coming to St. Louis right now, $1K sets aren't going to attract very much attention. Lately, most sets are from $10K - $30K. I very much enjoyed our match in southern ILL many years ago. To the tune of $1,500 or so. Jerry is a great player and a gentleman and beat some good players. He also played Louie some great matches down south.
