Can that killer instinct be learned?

I don't know if it can be learned but I know it can be lost. I grew up hungry. I'm not hungry anymore. If I didn't win I couldn't buy food or clothes. Now I just don't care. Win or lose I still go home happy. Gone are the days when I could Kill,Cripple or Destroy.

If you really wanted to, do you think you could pull it back up and have it again? IF you really wanted to?

And since it seems you don't want to, do you think you can reprogram yourself to want it again like you did before? Or is even trying out of the picture now?

It seems like I just don't have that killer instinct. After playing a while I find I loss the competitive edge. I don't really care about winning anymore and become content just to play or just to have it over with. However, if I wind up winning I still feel pleased and bummed if I wind up losing. It is like I do care about the results, but I don't care about the process. It is very much like just getting bored, but I never get bored playing just for fun; I can play all night long.
For instance, for several weeks in APA as a 5 I've been beating people 4-0. This week I go up to a 6, I'm up 4-0 on a 4 and wind up losing 4-3. I suppose my mistake was beating those other people 4-0 and going up, but that would be another thread. I just kind of lost interest after 3 games.
Any suggestions?

You should definately play something else besides APA. aka (Any pocket available) called shots, home pocket, (first ball pocketed is where the 8 goes. Straight pool and one pocket. 10 ball too. Called shot, called safe. something where you better challenge your self.

I'll go with the four C's...

Concentration
Consistency
Confidence
Control

And when I think of the killer instinct?

Jose Parica.. the giant killer.

JUST RIDING AROUND WITH THE TOP DOWN.....

I find myself playing-down all the time if I play only the players in my hometown.

Not bragging here, I just don't have access to strong players on a regular basis.

To "help" me keep sharp, from time to time I will travel a few hours, get a room for a week or so and find tough games while trying to keep the bet "just outside" my comfort zone.

Not trying to break the bank here, just making sure "every shot" has equal importance.

I have found that anytime pros are within driving distance, I go if they are willing to play cheap sets.

Nothing gets my game going better than looking across the table and seeing a beast in waiting. Do that and you'll pay attention or just "pay" lol....

I don't care who you are, after losing enough dough you will "perk up or give up"....

Killer instant is an intresting subject, if you wish to be a great POOL play.

Practice, learning to Focus, and block out everything will improve Proformance.

Mental part of the game is a tought learn, blowing out everything going on in your life, around you, and DEVOTING 110% of your attention to each shot is half the battle.

I would agree- it is all about making EVERY shot as good as you possibly can- all of the time- true focus and determination- that is what champions of all sports do- but the key is to remain relaxed in body as you focus- on EVERY shot- till the game is over!
