Just as the title reads. Can to be too slow?
I have been working on my issue of stroking too fast.
I get up there pump, pump and shoot.
Is the goal to really find your own tempo or should you slow down as much as possible.
I want avoid going from one extreme to the other.
My forward stroke is what ever the shot call for of course - soft - med - hard.

Just looking for some thoughts.

Absolutely. If "slow" brings tension then it would be counter productive in your stroke.

We use the word "smooth". In School we look for a smooth Transition from back-to-forward.

A too quick back stroke could lead to some re-gripping or re-alignment issues.

Don't be a JERK....SPF=randyg

Just keep your arm relaxed at all times. Which in my opinion starts with the grip.

Watch Ronnie O'Sullivans stroke, theres a good starting point

If you are trying to force it, it can be hurting you. Like Randy said, a smooth backstroke is what you want. The speed of the back stroke has nothing to do with your stroke. The only reason you need a backstroke is to get yourself into position to start your forward stroke!

Eevryones different, while Ronnie O'Sullivan maybe a good start, you should also look at John Higgins and see how slow he is. John also employs a pause at the end of his back swing.

I think more important than any of that though is to cue straight, cue smoothly and cue the same every time. Pro's be it Snooker or Pool all cue differently, but the top ones all, without exception, do the same thing every time. It will take a lot of practice and patience on your part to do that, you may even have a drop off in performance intially simply due to thinking too much. Eventually you will get to the point where you do this without thinking about it and improvements will come.

I have only just started playing Pool after moving here from England 6 years ago, I hadn't picked up a Snooker cue in over 15 years. I love this game, far more than I ever did Snooker. I have had to learn all over again, not only the game itself, but to simply cue properly. I am now employing the above, that I was taught all those years ago and the results are starting to really show now.

Hope it all goes well for you, the most important thing though is to have fun and remember the only thing more fun than playing this game, is playing and winning!
