Can You Hear the Lion Roar?

After the political problems encountered by Alex Pagulayan in the Republic of the Philippines, nothing pleases me more than to see Alex Pagulayan win the World Pool Masters on May 11, 2008, held at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He is always, always, always going to be the crowd favorite, no matter what country he is playing in. The man has charisma, charm, and class.

I was pleasantly surprised to wake up this morning and learn that the Lion roared in Vegas last night. Congratulations to a world-class player.

How can you not love this guy?! Look at this picture. What a ham! :D

You go, Alex

Probably the most entertaining player on the planet right now ... sorry Keith, but you're now in the geezer division and no longer in the running.

If Keith is in the geezer division, along with Jose Parica and Efren Reyes, then that's a good thing! :)

For the money, last time they gambled, Alex defeated Keith.

At tournaments, the last three times they played, Keith defeated Alex.

Each match-up was surrounded by a crowd of onlookers. The two of them always put in a good show, and they played good, too! :D

Can I hear the Lion roar? Indeed, I can!!! Alex, you da man!!!

What a comeback for Alex, being stuck 6 to 3, going to 8.

Mika makes an illegal break, and Alex capitalizes on Mika's error, winning three games in a row.

Eventually, when the dust settled, Alex triumphs. According to the interview afterwards, he came in second place in this very tournament, the 2006 World Pool Master, with German Ralf Souquet the victor at that time.

Oh, the sweet taste of victory. Don't ever underestimate the power of the Lion!

Alex also enjoyed a strong comeback against Shane in the TAR match-up, which just ended a short time ago. Shane is still in the lead, but Alex fought back and closed up the gap a bit.

Hopefully, the Lion will sleep tonight and get ready for the Predator 10-ball tournament and Round 2 with Shane. :)

:p What do you mean tonight? It is already morning over there and Alex still has to play in the Predator 10 ball and resume the match with SVB at 6 pm. The gap is now only down to 6 games. If Alex was able to come back from a 3 pt deficit when when was down 3 to 6 in a race to 8 match, this 6 point lead by SVB is nothing in a race to 100. It is hard to bet against any of these 2 champions. May the best man win!!!!

I know what you mean. This is a toughie match-up for sure, but quite exciting! :p

I don't know how they can resume tonight if they have a players meeting for the Predator 10-Ball Tournament at 7:00 p.m, Vegas Time, tonight.

I have a feeling the TAR Challenge Match may have to resume tomorrow and not today, but this may change after they do the draw on the charts for the Predator event.

Congrats to Alex

on a side note, according to his earnings from the main page for years 2000-2007, he's averaged about 65k per year in prize money

how disgracefull is that for one of the absolute best in the world?

factor in travel expenses and I'll bet your average bus driver takes home more

The money payouts on AzBilliards is not 100-percent correct, though it does represent some payouts.

There are some tournament winnings that, unfortunately, slip through the AzBilliards website cracks! :)

Congratulations on your 11 green dots, Smashmouth! You've come a long way, Baby! :)

I understand and agree with your point...but it's not quite that bad. Prize money is only one component of the pros income...or any other celebrity.

Faith Hill makes only about 25% of her income from record sales.

Jeanette Lee is reported to be on target for $800K in annual income which, of course, dwarfs her tour winnings.

Jim

Ham for sure. After his win, they must have had 20 fotogs taking pictures of Alex. It was like Britney leaving a club. Anyway Alex stood there doing every imaginable pose -Several Muscleman poses front and back, profiles, trophy on head etc. He was enjoying it thoroughly and having fun.

PS-Alex also has added a generic "Taiwanese Pool player" to his repertoire of imitations and i understand its dead on hysterical.

Very interesting that you mention Jeanette now. I was just ruminating on the Shane vs Alex match. This is the first big TAR match that I have missed. Work comes first and I get up at 5 AM EST.

When I heard last night that Alex had won the World Pool Masters I wondered how it would effect him VS Shane. The first thought that crossed my mind was that he was likely to be tired. Then Ktown said that he might be in dead pop and running out from everywhere. When I got up this morning he was behind 13-9 I think. Shane's break was working and he was running out. Now I hear that Alex bounced back to 30-24 ? That's amazing !

To anyone who has seen Alex rapping with a mic in a poolroom, or seen him totally break everyone up while on the hill for a large amount of cheese, there can be no doubt that he's a born entertainer. He could endorse anything from soup to nuts, and some enterprising hungry young company will see that and grab him. Honestly, I like Shane's 10 Ball game better but Alex is at this time a better all around player. He's a World Champion, has a ton of titles, and is NOT SHY :p . Sign him up...Tom
