Cant Get Better

2 cents...

Really ? I said they should if THEY cant figure it out. You mean to tell me if Tiger Woods slices a ball he doesn't know that he has the club face too high at impact on the ball ?

You make it sound like I knocked the idea of a pro or expert level player seeing an instructor. I said they probably have the knowledge to be able to figure out what they are doing wrong. These are the same people that are very capable of teaching the FUNDAMENTALS of the game to a newer player or anyone that feels their game could use the help. Jesus, everytime something is said an argument is sprung from it.

You are truly unknowledgeable if you think that an expert player of this game cant go back to the basics themselves and fix their stroke hitch, or just automatically know what they did wrong because of what happened to the shot. You need to find some REAL pro's to shoot with on a regular.

To the root of the original post, Ryan, do yourself a favor and see an instructor or a local pro, and have them help you with your game. You will see a great improvement.

I am willing to guarentee many pro's still see qualified instructors from time to time. Yes they can probably have an idea of what is off but like scott says, the pro's "likely know nothing about how to examine someone's stroke, and even less about how to help a student learn to fix it"... Self analyzing is one thing but to get the outside opinion where they will probably see something that was not self-diagnosed.

And however unknowledgeable you think I am, people pay me for lessons and they keep coming back because they keep getting better and better.

And the poolhall I play out of has Johnny Archer, Sean Putnam and Kim Davenport there whenever they are not traveling for tournaments. Also Stevie Moore, Paul Song and many more great players play around the Atlanta area. I get to see world class pool almost every week.

Well thats fantastic.. Once again you are not following what I said... Here goes one more time.. if a pro is missing here and there or is not getting the proper cue ball control when they are shooting, they will be able to fix themselves.. However if it is something that has hitched their game by all means go so a BCA CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR or an awesome guy like yourself. I too have taught for money, from age 17 to 23. It was fun and I gave alot of people some very good knowledge and I enjoy watching them sprout into great players they are. I still give free on-going lessons when they need my help. Im glad that your accolades include teaching, and i dont know who you are so I wont comment on your game or ability of teaching, I will comment on that fact that you cant understand what Im saying and its in plain english right here! Scott was referring to a pro teaching others, which I can agree with sometimes.

Please spare me the labor pains with all this nonsense. Bottom line, if a pro cant help themselves with simple issues, they are NO PRO in my book.

As to who I play with 4-5 times per week, I get to play Earl now that he has moved to my neck of the woods. Along with 7-9 local pro's and most of Florida's semi-pro's. Now what do we, whip out the ruler and see who's is longer ? Thats a joke, but I hope you get the underlying meaning.

Next time Johnny is in the building, ask him when his last lesson was given to him by someone who cant shoot like him ? And he paid for it no less ?No disrespect, but most of the people you named have forgotten more than me and you both know.

Hi there,

RWOJO- don t let tease you :)
As long as students re coming back and smile, it just counts for you.
I quit competition now completly since my knee-issue, and now also mentally and almost just giving instruction now. It s satisfying me, i enjoy it-and if the person i taught is also satisfied and smiles it will make my day. I m not living from it- but i think i can say for sure, that i m experienced if it s about pool- but you always have to be ready to learn something new. Just talking with new students or even with other instructors is a process of learning-not just discussing.
I see many very experienced players which still work from time to time with pro/good instructors. I don t think they re just bored and want to support somebody :p

I also read what Mr. Horton wrote--sounds a bit hard/rude in some cases. But if this is his opinion- he will be ok with his knowledge etc.
No reason to offend each other.

So- RWOJO, relax and enjoy your next student :-)

Sorry to be hard/rude folks. I just read it and it did seem pretty rash. Its the 3rd time I have had to explain it though. I type really fast so, I can get through a statement and post it in about 2 minutes. And I am wrong in the sense that I dont know if Johnny Archer takes lessons or Putnam or any of the other ones. I just know the ones in Florida and anywhere else I have met them, they dont take them, but they give them. Different strokes of life. Sorry RWOJO, no disrespect meant.

You just might get a real surprize by Johnny's answer. I spend a lot of time teaching pros how to teach.

They are coming back and they enjoy learning almost as much as I enjoy teaching.

I'm not going to let Chris bring me down any, my day will be better than the previous. If he blows up because I disagree with him and he takes it as I don't understand simple english then its ok. Maybe he learned his manners and etiquette from playing with Earl!
