No, I can't understand why you didn't finish the book. If you actually read the whole thing, you'd see it has less to do with what most fools talk about as the "mental game." In fact, it's Fancher's tie-in with the physical side of the game that makes his spin on the mental aspect much more palatable. He specificall stays away from Zen and mystical hooey.whitewolf said:My wife and I both read the first part of the Pleasures of Small Motions and it became so obvious what he was talking about that we didn't finish the book. She liked the booked. Years ago she had traded emails with Bob Fancher, who she claims is a real nice person.
Oddly enough, even before we ordered the Pleasures of Small Motions, my wife had lectured me endless hours about how the right brain works. Thus I went on a program which we jokingly called Zen Pool (Laura has read much about Zen and has taken classes). The object was just to shoot balls in the hole without caring if they went in or not. Now this is indeed contrary to what a lot of pros will tell you, that you must practice a missed shot over and over and over until it becomes ingrained. Our method was designed to develope a 'free wheeling' stroke which was created from an environment without tension.
Then we started reading the Pleasures of Small Motions and you can understand why we didn't finish the book.
