Can anyone tell me about his cues, how they play, cost versus value, secondary market prices and such.
I just picked one up, haven't had time to test it on the tables yet.

Capone Cues

They are very well made cues. I bought one brand new and liked it a lot. Mine played on the stiff side but played great. I had a cocobolo plain jane with some ring work and a leather wrap that cost me (as I recall) 830.00 which is a very good value for this quality cue. These cues are made for players and not bangers.

Mike Capone is a first rate cue maker and very highly regarded by not only his customers, but by his fellow cue makers too.

I believe he is the president of the aca...American cue makers association.

You posted had, did you sell/trade it?

Capone Cue

I got my nose open on one of Greg Sowder cues. It has a tulipwood forearm with masacar ebony points and I still have it today. As you know Greg is a very good friend of mine and since I don't collect cues I decided to sell the Capone. Capone cues are great players and you could look a long time to find a better playing cue.

Do you have a picture of the Capone cue?

Greg's cues do play good. My buddy just had his stolen in front of touches out of his car last week. Part of my payment in brokering some cues is a Sowder conversion cue.

The cue is similar to the one on his website, one of his simple but elegant plain janes in Bacote.

I picked up my Capone from a friend in about 96/7, 6 pointer in birdseye, leather wrap and 2 shafts......$250., cue was only a year old, he just had a kid and needed cash, Think he paid 750/800 to have it made.
From what mike could tell me it was his 7th cue he made (ole lucky 7!)
All his cues hold their cost value or better. secondary market is still strong.
As far as play ability goes it hit very nice....plays better then i ever will....., but just in the last year i put a tiger ultra X shaft on it ,...love it...
I know a few guys that own them and they are all happy with his quality and customer service.
Mike is a very nice guy and you can catch him at any big event / trade show on the east coast. US open....SBE.....ect. He comes prepared with several top quality cues and I believe he still takes custom orders, Waiting list time IDK..

Mike Capone is a great guy and a top cue maker and I first met Mike at the US Open years ago. I've been going to the Open annually for many years and Mike sets up a booth there every year. We talked a few times about cues and I sat down with him one year and ordered a cue. He built my cue in a reasonable amount of time and I was very pleased with his work and the way the cue played.

I liked that cue a lot and I later ran across a used Capone cue on eBay that caught my eye and I bought it based on the sellers pics and description. When I got the cue there was a problem with one of the shafts. Apparently the previous owner had cross threaded one of the shafts onto the joint pin and ruined the threads in the shaft. I called Mike and explained the problem I had with the shaft and he said to send it to him and he'd fix it for me. I didn't know how much it was going to cost, but I needed the shaft fixed so I packed it up and sent it to Mike. He fixed the shaft and shipped it back to me free of charge and I didn't buy the cue from him. It was bought second hand off eBay. Based on how he treated me I'd highly recommend him to anyone who might be interested in a Capone cue. You can't ask for better customer service than what Mike did for me!

James
