Capones Update

Hi,

A little late but Rocky does not have an internet hookup. Okay, I think that every poolroom should have internet hookup.

Kay Higgins is a sweetheart and realy underpaid for all the work she does. How she is able to keep smiling amazes me.

I spoke with Mike Sigel, or was part of the group around him anyway, and boy did I get an earfull. Many things are in the works for the IPT. One of which is selling it for 70 Mil and that is where KT was today with his lawyers. And many tournaments in 2007. So many I wonder if the players will able to stand up under the stress and pressure.

Mike was supposed to be the challenge guy but things were going a bit slow and he managed to talk Rodney into taking over for him. He really had to work hard to convince Rodney to do the job.

Rodney did manage to barely win his challenge match - 10-4. Well it was close for a while anyway.

Rob Saez started his second match against William Bilbrey by winning the lag and then running 5 racks. He made a ball in the 6th rack but was hooked. He won 10-2 and will play tomorrow.

Richie Richeson is playing exceptionally well. In his first match against Rickey Orem he had a 6 pack. Against Dave Grossman he was a few games ahead and Dave fought back to 9-8 and then in the 18th game Dave ran his balls and had a cut on the 8 ball in the side pocket. 8 ball about a diamond out and the cue ball a half diamond from the rail between the 1st and 2nd diamond. He put a lot of outside on the CB, made the 8 ball, the CB went to the end rail at the 1st diamond, the english grabbed and the CB went diagonally across the length of the table into the pocket. A tough loss for Dave.

Frankie Hernandez had a tough loss against Richard Broumpton. He jawed two 8-balls on the tough Diamond table. The last one was in the hill-hill match. Earlier Frankie had a tough match against Justin Hall. Frank won the first two games and then Justin broke and ran 7 racks. But Frankie came back to win 10-9.

There was some media coverage here too. Channel 8 interviewed Mike and someone else interviewed Rodney.

Here are a couple pictures. The lovely Kay. Lucky Louie and a couple of Rocky's bartenders, Mike being interviewed, the room showing the 8 tables that were used. The second row from the top are two Diamonds. And a Sardo rack which Rodney has mastered on how to use.

Jake

Loved the pictures, Jake, and, Kay, you do have a nice smile. Looks like the tournament is a complete success!

Selling it to who? Please elaborate a bit, Jake, for the inquiring minds.

I was pleased to see Rodney on the challenge table. Good for Mike allowing Rodney to step in. I'm sure with two little babies at home, the monies will come in very handy to Rodney and his family.

The pool room looks cool. I love to see pictures as it really helps one gain an understanding of the atmosphere and environment.

Who is buying it? Mike couldn't remember the name - someone with a lot of money. Ha Ha. Overseas. Then they will go public and the players will be offered share options. If it goes through that will enable the 150 to become instant millionaires. Well, after a year or so when they can resell their options.

I mentioned to Rodney that "baby needs a new pair of shoes" so he better win the challenge matches. He laughed. He is really enjoying himself and sure does look like he is at the top of his game. Everything just looks so easy for him.

This old body is all wore out so I won't be making the drive there today. Would have really loved to watch Robb and Richie do battle this morning. This is another case where I don't want either one to lose, but of course one has to. Richie Richeson is another top player living in Spring Hill. More of a money player than a tournament player. But that may all change once he gets into the IPT.

Mike also mentioned that the IPT is scheduling up to three tournaments a month in 2007 and may finish the season by the end of June.

The players best get their butts out and start doing some laps. Playing in the IPT is not going to be a picnic - only the strong will survive. It will take a sound mind and a strong body. Well, you all wanted Pool to become a sport and not a game now you have to do the work and get in shape just like the other athletes.

I sure can't last 12 hours a day for 7 days.

And here is Kay at her laptop overseeing the tournament tables. I was standing below next to a tournament table so you can get an idea how high the spectator seats are. You get a nice view of the tables.

It may be a great opportunity for the players. It explains a lot of what I have been hearing through the grapevine, though I'm not sure I understand this happening in its entirety, especially how it affects the players, which is my concern.

Rodney is on top of his game. He's such a joy to be around. The folks at Capones must be enjoying the festivities for sure. :)

If one goes to the losers' side today, they each still have a chance to both win. So cross your fingers and hope for the best. :p

Very interesting, to say the least.

My counterpart just got his first physical in decades and is currently following a strict regimen of exercise, followed by veggies, fruits, lean meats, and low sodium. His intake of barley and hops has been drastically reduced. LOL :D

Dumping Bud to get cash to buy IPT when it goes public I presume.

I just got a partial report on Capone's.... they are down to four players:
Rob Saez
Richard Broumpton
Keith Bennet
?
There are more people watching the action between Frankie Hernandez vs. Will Bilbrey. Will B. is ahead in the set being played for 5,000 jellybeans or 5 bags of sand...
Doug

The fourth qualifier player is Richie Richeson.:)

Frankie won himself a free entry fee to an upcoming IPT qualifier for the NEXT IPT tournament because he got picked to play on the challenge table and won his race-to-10. :p

Sounds like things are rocking and rolling at Capones. Bada-bing! :D

This just in...

In the losers' bracket at Capone's, Keith Bennett just defeated Richie Richeson, 10 to 2.

The winner of Robb Saez vs. Richard Broumpton wins the IPT qualifier, and the loser plays Keith Bennett for the second qualifier.

It's hard to see some of these players get knocked out.

JAM

Congrats to Robb. He was the best player in the field and deserves the win. I was actually surprised that he didn't qualify before this.

Richie now has a 3rd place and a 4th place finish in the qualifiers. In his first match against Bennet he could do no wrong and really pulled off some amazing shots while Bennet was missing and raking the balls alla Earl. Bennet was really thrown off kilter when in one game he was bumped by the player on the next table - not once but twice. Right after that he missed a long straight 8 ball that had to get past a blocking ball and it didn't.

So Rocky should be pretty proud that his three pros are all in the IPT. I hope they remember him when they make the big time. Ha Ha.

Ok Everyone,
I am back home now. It was a great match between Rob and Richard. Lots of good shots and spectators were really enjoying it. Rob was down 7-4 and made a comeback to make it 10-9. Richard played Keith and won the second spot. I had a great time doing this. I am sending the last updates to IPT and will be finishing up the paper work (....I thought my tour paperwork was a lot) and then on to another event.
The challenge matches were with Rodney Morris (such a sweet guy) and here are these results
John Treveles lost 10-4
Paul Brown lost 10-3
Frankie Hernandez won 10-8
Greg Ridenour won 10-5
Great playing and a really good field of players. Thanks to Rocky for holding the event and asking me to be the tournament director. Thanks to the players that were in the event and the spectators who came to watch. Thanks to all who said they felt I did a good job on this event and hope to see me doing more of them. That makes me feel really good.
Thanks to Jake for the pictures on here and I am so glad I didn't break his camera.
Kay

Till the next event
