I just received word that The Cue Club of Ononodoga {sp?}, on Teal Avenue in Syracuse, NY, better known as Cap's, is closing.

I'd like to think it's a hoax but I'm afraid it's not. I've spent a few hours there with Dick, Mike Wallace, and others, lot of good times\tournaments there.

Is there anywhere else to play in Syracuse? Caps is the only place I played when I was in town. Always liked that room

There were a couple of other rooms when I was last there but I've been gone from the Binghamton area for 15 years so I'm not sure now. I'm sure someone else from the area will chime in with more current information.

When I am in town visiting relatives I play at Salt City Billiards in North Syracuse.

It is owned and run by Joe Speach.......... a nice guy.

Stop in and ck it out. There is always a Tue nite 9 ball tournament using an in house handicap sys. AAA AA A B C D

The back room has about 12 tables 9ft and the front is for kids with some 7 ft tables. They also host an APA league.

Watch out...... there are some excellent players that play there. I play as a B and I played a AAA player in the 9 ball tournament. My spot was the 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9 and 1 game in a race to 7. I lost 7 to 2................ WOW a free pool lesson.... LOL

I've been to Cap's. It's definitely old school. Great food! It will be missed. Salt City Billiards is a good room. Premium Billiards, with it's sea of Diamond tables, is a very nice room, as well.

Salt City is the one I've been trying to remember. I've been there and it was a nice place. I haven't been to the other place, however.

Recession is alive and well in the USA.

I happened to go there last Thursday and asked about it. Their parking lot was part of the property next door. That owner sold that property so no more parking lot.

Incidentally, on that other property was a dilapidated do-it-yourself carwash place that was so rundown I think you contract tetnus just looking at the thing.

Caps was a fine poolroom, but Dick allowed many of his regulars to run other customers off. They did that by nagging them into gambling and belittling them if they wouldn't. Many high school kids lost their allowance or paycheck to the hungry sharks.

Another room I played at had moms and sons and families that would come in to play on a regular basis. The loud mouth regulars shouting "Mother-F%@er" and other vulgarities at the top of their lungs when they missed a shot, made sure the family type players wouldn't come back.

Little weeds become big weeds and it's best to pluck them out of your garden early.
