Carbide saw blade

A few weeks ago KJ stated that he had some solid carbide cut-off wheels for sale. I received 3 of them a few days ago and just now got one up and running. All I can say is WOW! They do an extremely good job of cutting off both wood deco-rings and phenolic. They are .030 thick and there is no flex like you get in a tool steel one and they are sharp and are apt to stay sharp as they are solid carbide. The drawback on them are that they aren't very large in diameter being 1.25" and the fact that the mounting hole is .312. After looking through the different arbors I have and finding none will fit .312 I decided to make one. It didn't take very long to make a new arbor that is a perfect fit for the wheel and balanced better than most that would be purchased. It's lovely to have equipment to make these types of appliances and jigs. If you look at MSC for standard size carbide cut-off saw blades or arbors for same, you may go into sticker shock but these from KJ are very reasonably priced if you can use them, give him a call. I'm sure glad that I did.

I agree completely. Very nice blades at an exceptional price. See this thread for a few different arbor styles.

I am getting ready to get set up for ring cutting. Anyone have advise on what kind of machine I should use for power? I will pm kj for pricing. Thanks

I've got a small Atlas lathe set up with a 1.5 hp Crapsman router mounted on it, that I leave set up, just for slicing off deco-rings. Most people who are using these for cutting off rings just mount their router in a quick change tool holder set to the right height, and when needed, just drop it onto their general use lathe tool post.
