Carbon Fiber shaft question

This is not a question about how good or bad carbon Fiber shafts are.

My question is about construction.

Some cue makers list them simply as Carbon Fiber and others Carbon Fiber Composite. Is there a difference? I know each manufacturer might have a difference in thickness or fill.

All terms are under the same umbrella and often used interchangeably from a terminology standpoint.that would also include the terns CF, Carbon Graphite etc. That said, depending on method and binders used, one carbon fiber composite might look, feel and perform miles different than another.

So basically they are probably all Carbon Fiber Composite, but just a different recipe of material and binders?

About the only real difference is if its flag/sheet-wrapped or filament wound. From a playing standpoint you can't really tell the difference. The guys that buy tubes and then finish it usually get flag-wrapped tubes from China. I know that Viking, Cuetec,Revo are filament wound. I'm sure others are too but i don't know which.

Yes. Which is why Carbon Graphite cues from 15 years ago felt more plastic-like.

Anyone know which way the Jacoby Black is made?

Here's a question for all carbon shaft owners... is the shaft completely smooth/round? Or can you feel lines/ridges around the shaft, almost like it was compressed and becoming oval shaped?

I've tried a couple and have noticed this on some, but not all.
Just wondering if this is common, or stress/wear and tear on the carbon?

My Jacoby feels rounds and I don't notice any lines/ridges. It's nice and smooth.

I have a couple Meucci cf Pros, a Defy and a shaft I bought here from Springfield Cues. They are all perfectly round with no visible construction issues. The Defy has a slick coating that I don't care for. All the others are just CF and hit wonderfully.

I know a guy who sanded that stupid coating off his Defy and another who managed to wear most of it off.
That coating is ridiculous. I wanted to hit a few with that shaft but there was no way to use it without a glove.
I've hit with the Ignite, Rogue, Revo, Black, and the Cynergy. No lines or grooves in any of them and they were all round of course.
