I have a Ballstar and the balls look like they'er chrome plated.Maybe you have a problem with your pads.Make sure your polishing fluid is well mixed.I love mine.
Check youtube. you can make one for $40. Mine worked great.
My friend has about nine carom tables at his poolroom and during busy hours, its imposible to clean it by hands. My other friend has an older BallStar model and it clean the balls much better. We checked the pads, the nozzle and chemical on the newer model but its still not as clean.
I dont think you can achieve the same polish by hand that the high speed machine can get! Im always happy with the results from my homemade box polisher powered by a converted washing machine motor...watch out!
wow some of you guys are very creative! I have to say I have used one of the korean 4-ball polishers and have been happy with their performance. I do have access to a 5 ball polisher but they run about 350 bucks, shipped with an extra pad set. It would take about 2 weeks to get it to you.
Here's the suggested cleaning process:
I like aramith ball cleaner but whatever you like is fine.
apply cleaner directly to the balls
scrub balls by hand with cloth gloves on
let dry a bit and then hand buff a little
place in machine and let it do the rest
this way you scrub the grime off the balls. this makes sure they don't start going crazy short on you once the coating of the cleaner/wax etc comes off in the middle of the game. The change in table conditions will be much less drastic.
The light buff of the balls by hand reduces the crap that gets into the ball cleaning pads and increases life span of the pads drastically.
