As many of you already know Carom Cafe is the Billiards Mecca in the United States. I recently played in their weekly handicapped tournament and was placed in the tournament at an 11 spot. There were twenty players which is great because the normal local nine ball tourney that I play in only has like 8 players and thats on a good day. They did a round robin format and with four wins and only one loss i advanced to the elimination rounds. What an awesome feeling I ran a five to get out of my last match and now here I was "in the cash". It was absolutely incredible there were some phenomenal local talent there and in truth I was shocked I got as far as I did. Basically my opponents made mistakes that I capitalized upon, they probably saw me for the total noobie i am at this game and eased up figuring for an easy win.
In my first elimination round I had to play an elderly gentleman and in my haste I wrote him off as he was a lower spot than me. He proceeded to put on a clinic and basically whooped me all over flushing queens.
I came in fourth and look forward to going back.
I simply have one question.
with twenty guys at thirty dollar entry each thats six hundred bucks.
First place got 130.00
Second Place got 100.00
Third took home 70.00
and fourth took 40.00
That means that 260.00 was taken out of the prize pool. I am told that is normal but it just seems lke a lot to me.
Now here is the thing that gets me though, we played for six hours straight and believe me i feel i got my money's worth out of the tournament but it just seems like a lot of money came out. Perhaps I am wrong and any input you can give would be great.
