Carom cue to break in pocket billiards

Just wondering if anyone has used a Carom cue to break in pocket billiards. I currently use a 2x4 butterfly case (I currently store a playing cue and a carom cue for 3C). I could use my playing cue to break or grab a house cue but was just wondering if anyone has tried using a carom cue with success breaking either 8 or 9 ball? thanks

I have a carom shaft in my bag but never thought about it. Maybe get a break shaft to put on your carom cue?

Break stick is better IMO. Even if some say a short stick is good for breaking. I think the shorter break sticks run 52-54” and a carom cue runs 56”. I have tried it but it didn’t seem to be that great. Not sure why. Probably the combination of a regular tip 12 mm and the taper. Remember a carom cue is designed to spin balls and that isn’t exactly great on a break

Unless I'm working on the 9 ball cut break? :D

as break cue, i use a 29" carom butt made for straight rail (light , 13oz) with a 29" conical shaft (4.3oz) , short ferrule ,13.5mm , taom tip.
it works !

Aren’t those specs closer to break cues than cues for the small games? 58” with a 13.5 mm tip.

The general cue specs plus the 13.5 tip is what does it. Parica used to break and play with a tip that was maybe 15mm.

I have used everything from a carom cue to a BK Rush break cue and every break tip/ etc etc.
I am convinced after 40 years that breaking is mostly about : the rack, your timing, your technique, and CB speed. All of these factors trump the actual cue used for breaking IMO.

I see guys pull a house cue off the rack and have monster breaks.

Carom shafts are a little bit shorter. If you have a 2x4 I would look into getting a break shaft for that carom cue.

yes , indeed. That's a custom shaft made to break with .
Since i play both carom and pool, i use mostly a versatile set of cues : my 3 carom butts are schuler-jointed , and i ordered a bunch of shafts for them (including pool shafts, break shafts, snooker shafts, straight rail shafts ....) , so i have cues from 460g (for straight rail on 8' or 9' tables) up to 540g , from 138cm to 146cm lenght depending of the butt/shaft config. i need for the game i wanna play ROFL ... thanks to the schuler joint...

Yeah makes sense. I looked at the specs of a new schuler balkline cue on Kozoom. Shaft was 27.5 and 11.3 mm. Schuler joint is versatile. I have a schuler with a few shafts but don’t play with it right now. I used the European taper for carom and kind of liked the American taper for pool. Liked it more than their regular pool shaft.

I see 0 benefit.

Break cues benefit from ultra hard tips, not conical tapers. You aren't hitting off-center (are you?!?!).

Also, that taper feels weird to pool hands. Y'all ain't ready for that flip-flop
