I play three cushion quite a bit, and recommend Helmstetter cues for three cushion. I'm not aware of anywhere you can get them in the USA, but if you don't mind buying form a Candian online store, you might find the following link useful.

As for learning billiard theory, the Monk Series 202 "Foundation for Banking and Kicking", Volumes 1,2, and 3, which are presented by Tom "Dr. Cue" Rossman, are three great VCR tapes. These tapes, though geared toward poolplayers, will give you an outstanding command of billiard theory.

I play, using a Schuler cue with the stiffest Euro taper shaft. Bob Byrne's also uses a Schuler, FWIW). Google for the website. Adam of Japan also makes carom cues.

Your best start is Bob Byrne's "Standard Book of Billiards" a true classic. The last half is devoted to basic 3C principles, the big ball, and other important topics, in addition to over 200 illustrated shots, which if you take to school will take you far down the road towards becoming a real 3C player.

Also, do not overlook the Accu-stats.com website, they have many 3C tournament matches, highlights, artistic billiards, etc. on tape (which I need to take advantage of myself).

Last, you might take up the Spanish, the Southwest and poolrooms, because "Bilyado" in Mexico City and other places thataway have many carom tables and fine players, some of whom have moved up to the Del Norte, if Hollywood Billiards in Oxnard, Ventura County, CA is any indication.

Good luck in your continuing education quest.

Kevin
