Carving onto a case

Hello everyone,

I'm thinking of buying a blank 2x4 or 2x6 case (i'm interested in a J.B. Style case) that I can personalize myself with carving. Does anyone know where I can buy one without paying over $300, and if I can take a new case and carve into it.

Thanks,
D

Hello everyone,

There are a myriad of ways you can decorate leather while it's on the case. You can of course carve it using a swivel knife. Where you run into problems is when you need to shape the leather with stamping tools to accent your carved lines. Because the case typically does not provide the resistance you need to get good deep impressions that can be a challenge.

What I would suggest is that you take the interior out and fashion yourself a steady rest out of an iron bar or some wood and then tool the case on that.

We knock off $50 when a customer orders a J.Flowers tribute case with no tooling. If you can wait about another 6 weeks I can have one delivered to Sterling for you with out tooling and coloring. I will sell it to you for $300 delivered in the USA (hopefully you are in the USA) from Sterling's warehouse in Charlotte.

We will leave the bottom unfinished so that you can easily remove the interior and put it back when you are done.

I would like to see the finished product though so that we can show it on our site.

If you want this please let me know very soon so I can tell the factory to add this case to the current shipment.

Send me an email here jb@jbideas.com and I will direct you to where you can pay for it.

Other ways to decorate leather are pyrograpghy, Sharpie (don't laugh there are some amazing Sharpie artists out there), branding (heating up stamps), creative dyeing, and using attachments such as conchos.

Thanks

Excellent. Give me a few days to think about this one. I have your information and will get back to you. Thanks for the insight!

Best,
D
