categories on forum?

Forgive the audacity of a new member posting this, I tried to search for any past discussions.

Has there been any thought to splitting the main forum into several categories? It's a very active forum, and you've got discussions of pro players, equipment, game strategies/advice, all in one place. Just a thought.

I think it's a good idea, but there are already so many forums on this site. I'm not sure if the splitting would be a benefit or a PITA.

thats the nice thing about this forum ,there is a huge variaty of threads on all sorts of catagories .
 
Because

Splitting the forum (main) into subcategories would tend to make the forum labor intensive. Main -> Pro Players - Earl thread. In my example, you can see you have 2 additional functions before getting to Earl's thread and reading it. Now, I only have 1 function within Main to get to Earl's thread.

I like having the variety all within Main. I am interested in ANY thread, and would not appreciate having to go into several subforum categories before getting to the thread. It takes too much time and effort, and some users might even drop off because of being too subdivided within the Menu structure.

I say this, being a Sr. Systems Analyst retired, and have developed many many Mainframe Menu structures for a Mainframe system. You have to have a happy medium or it works against you.
