Here locally in Dayton they have started a tournament called "The Dayton Challenge on the Green." It's a team barbox tournament set up like the Sleepless in Sandusky tournament in that it's triple elimination by BCA rules. It was held at the Holiday Inn with the "Open division" team cutoff at 64 mens teams and 32 womens teams. Team entry fee is $528 per mens open team and that includes 2 hotel rooms. Open womens team entry fee $378 includes one hotel room. An additional $20 Green Fee allows you to play on the tables as they are opened 24/7.

Teams from West Virginia, and Pennsylvania attended this inaugural event and it was a damn good time. But the word of mouth was not spread far enough and the "Open Mens" only fielded 16 teams. But I will say that the strength of the field was greater through and through than what I have experienced during three Sleepless in Sandusky tournaments at Lake Erie.
The promoters do have kinks to work out in their format but I think the feedback they have received should eliminate these minor bumps in the road.
The tables were Coopers and Shelti's and all of them played pretty good for barbox's. They played true and fast to medium speed. (With the exception of slow table #16.)Mini tournament's were held throughout the tournament with many youth players entering to test their metal. (These kids play good by the way!)
My team had the luck of losing to the Ohio State open champion team in the beginning and lost by two balls. Then we had to play the Phenoms a Middletown team that just ranout seemly at will on us. (Four runouts in the first seven games.) That team included fellow AZ'er Joe Koontz who ranout twice in his three tries. (Great shooting Joe!!!)
So after Friday was over we found ourselves with two losses on the Triple low end bracket right off the bat. Saturday morning we won our next two matches easily not having the finish the last 5 and 3 games as the matches are decided by point total and are over mathematically impossible to win.
Low and behold we had to play the Phenoms again. They pulled out to an early lead again but we came back and soon had the lead ourselves. The match ended in a tie with a final flurry of wins the Phenoms produced. A one game winner take all tie breaker game was played with John making a fantastic out to beat us. (Sorry Joe don't remember John's last name or if he would want it posted here.)
I played well, as did our team, but you always remember your mistakes. (Coulda, woulda, shouda) I had 4 break and runs in twelve games which is good but I just do not possess a great break like Joe does.
I just thought I would share my thoughts of this tournament and hope that any AZ'ers with teams close enough would enter this event next year. This was a place that changes up the competition in team events and I enjoyed it completely. I get tired of playing the same old teams and these teams were different and strong.
I don't expect many responses just wanted a "Good read" for tha AZ'ers out there....
