chameleon rack

Have you used a chameleon rack and what do you think of it.

I have. And my feedback is that they break (come apart, inadvertently disassemble) easily. The entire unit is PLASTIC and, although a great idea, the execution of it was "cheaped out" on. It's made in China, probably by a toy manufacturer, and comes in one of those toy-style "blister packs":

When racking with it, you have to be PRECISE in how much tension you apply to those buttons. It's easy to press too firmly, and if you do, the balls cause the plastic sides of the rack to bulge, thus canceling out the purpose of the rack to begin with -- to give a tight rack of balls, which the bulging sides DON'T do.

Humbly, I'd say get yourself a good, solid, wood rack, like the Diamond rack, or if you've the extra cash to invest (a long-term investment), get yourself a Delta-13. Those Delta-13 racks (the solid one-piece molded ones) have come down significantly in price, below the $40 range, if I'm not mistaken.

Hope this is helpful,

I too have heard that the Chameleon is constructed in a very cheap manner. No experience with it myself, but I can't imagine a plastic rack with all those moving parts would stand up to the test of time, especially being made in China. I know everyone swears by Delta-13 racks, and I have nothing bad to say about them. But if you're looking for a less expensive alternative, I have been using a Magic Rack Pro for about a month now and I absolutely love it.

I'll 2nd the vote for magic ball rack. It's dirt cheap, and gives an absolutely perfect rack. It looks like a disposable rack, it's not really. One of them will last a long time and you get two per order (10b doubles as a 9b rack).

Can't comment on the chameleon but I won't ever buy plastic unless it's some special hardened form of plastic that's tougher than toy plastic. If I wanted something more sturdy than the magic ball rack, I'd get a delta 13 for sure.

Delta 13

Delta 13 is the best rack out there. large numbers of posters here attest to that. Everything else is mostly touts.

The Chameleon rack was one of the sponsors of the pro event at the expo in Valley Forge 2 or 3 years ago. I specifically asked some of the players what they thought about it and they said it was "junk". Most of them said that it was a good idea but was done too cheap. I believe most of the players were bypassing the buttons at the bottom when they racked.

The cheapest price with the best, no hassle, tight rack every time is the magic ball rack.

Personally I agree with CreeDo about plastic racks.

Like others have mentioned, your best bet outside of the magic ball rack is the delta 13 or the Diamond rack.

Wow that rack is a mess , I played in a match with that rack it never racked good no matter what you did to it . The back two balls always split and after that the little yellow thing on top popped off ..
Great for _____ .

They retail for $70, but in my opinion, they're worth it. They're guaranteed never to warp, bow, or splinter, and they will literally last you a lifetime. Much more economical than replacing your $10 rack every few years.
