Change my mind. Elkmaster

Change my mind. The reason snooker players love soft elkmaster tips is because those Ash wood shafts have such a horrible hit. I find the same is true with those carbon fiber shafts. Most people use soft tips because the feel is so bad. The carbon shafts are the same accuracy as the best wood LD... so your really just pigeon hole yourself into a soft top tip.

LOL, no…I dry press my Elkmaster 1mm for 48 hours before installing on my predator carbon shaft.

But, there has been a recent change. I’m trying the new Bulletproof Synthetic playing tip (medium).

Feel doesn’t have anything to do with pocketing balls.

The Victory soft tip that came with my Revo was the worst tip I ever played with. I’m mostly using the Precision Medium tip. Thinking about going with a little harder tip next time.

I’m always looking for a 1P guru. Where are you located? Never know where I might go, if you’re interested.

I use rock hard tips on my snooker cue, always have done. I think Ash hits bloody lovely. Feel of a one piece ash cue > anything else.

The main reason for the use of Elkmaster tips in snooker is the conservative aspect of the sport, they don't embrace change as pool players do. Elmaster tips are cheap, but also incredibly inconsistent, which is the last thing you want. Pressing them or making dud is an improvement, but a quality layered tip makes a huge difference in terms of consistency.

ash is ok but i'm on the stephen hendry side of cue preferences. my maple snooker cue got lost though when the pool room changed hands. and all house cues are ash. don't play enough to warrant another cue purchase

I milkdud my elkmasters and they are one of the best tips you can use. I've started buying them because I'd press a dozen and get about 6 magical tips and 6 good tips. It's kind of fun but I never really did anything to chase consistency on mine.

The only negative I've experienced from my ash snooker cue, which is genuinely above and beyond my standard of play, is that the grain pulls on my beard from time to time.

I had a cue built to the same spec by a Thai brand called Niche that is made of maple. I bought my ash cue with me to China, and don't like to travel with it. So had one extra made. One for here, and one for home. I preferred the ash, so keep it where I play most often.

There is slightly more 'feel' to the ash shaft, but I am not well versed enough to go into detail as to why I prefer it. I imagine most of it is to do with the psychological nature of familiarity. I had the new one made of maple to save my chin, and because I too am a Hendry fan (and also just because I wanted to try something a little different).

I used Blue Diamonds on my snooker cue. They had a reliable crisp hit when using alot of side when playing safeties and didn't mushroom like an Elk Master
I used to use Elkmaster duds my dad would make, but switched to hard MW super tips while here in China, as many friends (who play much better than me), told me the Elkmasters were not good or fake here. Otherwise I would have tried making my own duds. MW super tips are very nice. Still have a few for the snooker cue left. I was using the Medium super tips on my pool cue, but have recently switched due to the source I had inflating the price.

counterfeiting something as cheap as elkmasters is next level lol. why not just buy them and sell them with a little margin? they're cheap even with chinese standards

I've no idea mate, I assume they make money from the brand. But my friend was adamant that I shouldn't bother buying them here. Given his level of play, I'd take his word.
