Changing the stain.

I have a older Mc Derrmot that i think is so ugily, I realy like the feel of these cues.
Its straight and it plays pretty good.
So I need to know if the red stain can be changed to a light black or gray or black with the birdseye showing, it has some birds eye in it, and refinish with out geting the maple ring work all black?
New shaft with matching ring.
Maby a tan smooth wrap?
Can I get a ball park price or is it even worth doing it?

Rvan, it would mainly just take a refinish, but the forearm and butt section would loose a little bit in diameter, I doubt for the most part that it would be noticable at all. The reason for loss of diameter would be due to the fact that the stain used in these older cues has had a great deal of time to soak in, and different areas that are stained will absorb stain differently. The areas with the most figure will soak it and remain darker than the areas that little or no figure.

I have done a number of these D-model Mcdermotts over the years and I have never had a problem. I can do the work, if you are intrested send me a Pm.
