Changing tip to ivory ferrule

Hi ! Just recently I acquired a cue with ivory ferrule(s) and now I wanted to change the tip. I've always used super glue, the gel type which doesn't cling instantly, to change my tip. Is the super glue something to be avoided with ivory ferrules or is it alright to use super glue ? I know there are also some fiber pads people put between the ivory ferrule and the tip to protect the ferrule, but I have never seen those pads sold around here...

Super glue is fine.
The fiber pads are to eliminate lateral force on the ferrule. As a tip wears and mushrooms, it might theoretically put outward pressure upon the ferrule causing it to crack. If the ferrule is of the capped type, a pad is (in my opinion) not necessary.

Super Glue Gel is cool. If you're worried about the job it does, try the Loctite 454 from Atlas Billiards. It's a little expensive for glue, but it works well for me. Loctite 454

Loctite 454 is unbeatable in my opinion. I do not like the large price of the tube from Atlas because the shelf life is too short and the glue hardens in the tube. I now use Loctite Gel from Home Depot and the small tubes get mostly used up before it goes bad. I do not know if the Loctite I get from HD is 454 or not but it sure acts the same.

I order from them once or twice a week. Let me know if you want a tube or two.

I know what you mean about the 454 from Atlas...it sucks about that. Still is the best for me to use though. Works better than anything I've tried. Didn't know about Loctite Gel from Home Depot. Is it pretty fast acting? I do ALOT of house cues....

Go to mcmaster.com and search loctite 454 or go to catalog page 3173....the tube is $14.46. I have ordered lots of stuff from them and always receive it the very next day. Their paper catalog is huge. They have a lot of hard to find stuff.

I work maintenance and have ordered all sorts of supplies for that. Plumbing, electrical, hvac etc. They do have some things that could be used for cue building, threaded rod, G10, some other phenolics. Some of their stuff is not the best price but some prices are real good. They have several places they ship from throughout the US and do ship really quickly.
