Changing tips...How long to get used to?

When you replace your tip with a different brand, how long does it take you to be comfortable enough with it.( money on the line)

15 minutes

If I dont feel comfortable in a short time it is gone. Some tips just do not work how i want or expect. Why waste too much time on it.

Practicing about an hour a day, it took me a week to get a good feel. The first hour or two is mostly break in. If you don't like it after 10 hours or so(give or take), try something else. And dont be led to think brand A or brand B (or whatever brand it is) will not need a break in period. They ALL need it. An hour or two break in AT THE LEAST to really see how a tip is going to perform.

The better your stroke, the quicker this process will be. But don't judge a tip too harshly by just one or two hours of play. I've heard some here on AZ that condemn a tip after a few games. Then they state they cut it off and went with what they are used to. Mostly because of bias. They were not willing to learn the nuances of a different piece of equipment before giving up. When I started using my (now favorite) tip, I had a bit of a rough time. I stuck with it and am no longer looking back. Not saying I wouldn't try something else if I had a reason, but am very happy.

This very issue is why I have not put on my ki-tech soft yet. I have a big tournament this weekend and felt it would negatively affect my game.

Usually takes me 2-3 weeks to break in a tip @ 4 hrs/day - 3-4 days/week. After that I decide if I like it or not.

Some can be instant, others can be weeks. That goes for same brand tips too. I use Elkmaster tips, I buy a box of 50 at a time and ill maybe get 10 quality tips out of the whole box. I know instantly if I've got a poor Elk, so it gets cut off right away.

The Ki-Tech soft will seriously depend on your installer... IF the tip is high and tight with no fibers sticking up you pretty much won't have break in aside from getting the chalk beat in... They start at 70-72 in hardness... and when they finally die they will be 72-74 unless you break like Nevel or Hillbilly with it........ If the installer tears the sides and gets them hot you will be able to tell... Grab the tip and pull if it accordians you are going to have a bad day.... If it's solid... It will be all about how much fiber is between you and the ball..... I'll try and get some soft players to confirm...
