Charlotte Metro APA cities

...I thought this because all the people I played league with thought that a 7 could hold his own against any regional(semi-pro) player.....WRONG

This is funny! - back when I first started league as a 3, I thought that being a 7 was the promised land and that once there, would be able to hold my own against anybody.

Well, now having been a 7 for a while all I can think of is that man, I'm nowhere even close to the abilities of the pros! :o

But it is humorous how things seem when you first start out.

I didn't realize how big leagues were up there though - I've got two brothers in Charlotte and never take my cues or anything when I visit, because I've never found anywhere to play; guess I just haven't been looking hard enough...

Where in Charlotte are you brothers? I'll point you to the closest decent room to them for the next time you're in town. If you like playing in local in-house tournaments there are a ton that go on here, especially on Friday nights.

They live in Ballantyne off Johnston Road - really close to Matthews I think. Somewhere in between there...

I know the mall is really close to them.

That help?

The Green Room is in Pineville right by Caroina Place Mall or in Matthews is Rack 'em which has 18 tables and very nice equipment. Those are the two biggest I think but there are several others in between the two.

Funny thing. The higher your skill level gets, the more you realise how much more room for improvement you actually have!

When people tell me I play good, my stock answer is usually "Not yet, but I'm working on it"

Yup. Where you want to go is the Green Room in Pineville. It's right down the road from Carolina Place Mall. The place is a smokey pool hall filled with character with great players and there is just about always action going on. It's directly across the street from T&A Lingerie (a land mark I'm sure your brother knows, it's tough to miss the sign) on Polk Street. They have 9 9' Diamond Professionals and 6 9' Gandy Big G's and all the tables have tight pockets. I think the largest pockets are 4.5" and one of the Diamonds has around 4" (it's a beast to play on). The owner is there almost every night of the week and a great host.

There is also Bailey's on 51 just up Hwy 51 from Carolina Place Mall but it's a bit more sterile feeling than the Green Room. (It's owned by the Fox and the Hound Restaurant group). So it's a lot more corporate of a place.

If you want to go the other direction there is Rack 'Em in Matthews, they have 19 9' Gold Crowns. There is also a new place opening this month in Matthews that will have 11 9' Medalists (which I'm sure will be setup awesome as the room is being opened by one of the best table mechanics in Charlotte).

But the Green Room will be your closest option, plus the drinks are cheap. It's where I hang out when I'm playing and there are a number of other AZB's who hang there as well.

If someone said to me "you play good" I wouldn't value their opinion... Now, if they said "you play well" I might value it :)

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

Back at home

Well, my team and I got put out this morning by a shutout.:( I think some players still had sleep in their eyes, but hey, I had fun. All in all it was a great learning experience for my first trip. Kudus to all the organizers, they were running around like crazy to make sure every thing went smoothly. I couldn't imagine having to deal with all of us obnoxious poolplayers like they had to.:D Good luck for any remaining teams!!!

Sorry about the early elimination. But you gained a lot of knowledge just being there. When you get back again, the surroundings will be much more familiar, and you will find it easier to just focus on playing. Playing in the same building with a hundred other teams can be a little distracting when it's all new.

Give me a call when you are ready to schedule your classes.

We got put out early this morning as well. I can't complain too much though since we made it to Saturday with four players. If we had 5 we would've won today, but oh well.
