I've read that Jeanette Lee used to make alot of money off guys who refused to admit that a women can play top level pool. Has the success and exposure of the WPBA changed that at all? I mean, if you walked unannounced into pool room you've never been in before for some practice, what kind of reaction do you get from the average Joe when he sees how you can play?

Thanks, and Happy Holidays.

In her book entitled THE IDIOT'S GUIDE TO POOL AND BILLIARDS, Ewa Laurance calls it "taking egos".

HA....I love this question. My philosophy is to teach those guys that women play just as good if not better.

I have gotten mixed reactions. In my own area I cannot get a game with anyone unless I give up crazy spots. But occassionally someone wanders in and watches and says, "you play pretty good for a girl" and then they want to play for $5 and they don't get a chance to make a ball. Then they are saying.."wow you play really good" Then they start asking questions and feeling bad for what they said. I have made many good friendships in the pool world that began that way.

As for going into other pool rooms in other places sometimes people think I can't play (sometimes I think I can't play!) and I occassionally get games. But since I have gotten some coverage in magazines and post on the message boards quite a few people know me and know that I play on the pro tour. I would rather have that anyway because it's an honor and dream of mine to play on the tour.

Anyway, I do think the publicity and popularity of womens pool as changed the way people think of women playing. At the time Jeanette was reeping the benefits there was not as much publicity. Now the only way to completely suprise someone with how you play is if they have not seen pool on TV or read a pool magazine. So it is great for womens pool....tough to make a game. Oh well!

That must be kind of a frustraitng catch-22, because I read in one of your posts that you rely on the action games to help pay the bills. If you want action games you can't have exposure, but as your pro career takes off your name is all over the place. It must seem like you can't win, at least not money wise. Though it must be gratifying to have achieved a major goal like that.

You are exactly right. I am not saying that I do not get any action whatsoever. It just isn't as easy at it used to be. It is very gratifying to know that I have achieved a goal and I am hoping that things change for pool in the future. It is definitely a sport that has potential to be great in the public eye. It is hard making a living but hopefully one day it will be different. Until then...it's the love of the game.

Good luck in the New Year. Maybe we'll see you in some tv matches this year, and then your cover will really be blown.
