Does anyone know which one that would be?
I know Motel 6 is going out of buisness in september and I am looking for something in their prize range.
Or maybe there is someone who would like to share a room in Holliday Inn with me?

any clues would be appreciate
thanx

You may want to check out priceline or those type sites that offer discounts.
You may be surprised to find out the prices.

When I went to the Open I was by myself and found a good deal on
Priceline. It was not at the site but was only about 5 miles away but
was not far from the pool room. It was a La Quinta I believe for about $30
a night.
Make sure you understand those type sites rules before you do anything.
Priceline is a pay when you win place and you cant cancel.

I am sure there has to be some places around that are in your range.
I used to book a lot of rooms for a company I worked for so I will
look and PM you with some info if I find anything.
have fun and root for the AZ guys in the field

thanx Frank, I'll check the priceline...
I've been there already, but it looks to me, that they do not tell you exacly in which hotel you will be staying. Is that correct?

Right. You don't know until you have already paid. I think there's a Red Roof within walking distance of the Conference Center. If you plan on doing any drinking you should stay within walking distance.

The Red Roof is right across the street. Wally, you're absolutely right about not driving -some of the new DUI laws that went into effect July 1st are the toughest around.

yes and partly no
There is a site or two that give insight into what the bids have been
going for. This helps with your bid. It also gives you an indication
as to what hotels are coming up and for how much.

There are several different ways that you can pick your exact hotel
though and still receive a discount. Priceline is not one. No matter how
much insight we can get there no way of guaranteeing the hotel
of choice other than by the star rating. Oddly in some places the
3 star(priceline rating) places have the best deals. I think they get caught in the
middle with their prices and need to fill some rooms.

Also never forget to call the hotels and just ask. Tell them you need
a certain rate. Call back and speak with different people. Some are able
or more willing to try and find a rate or a special or will just give you
a better rate.
The good news is that within 5 miles of the event there are tons of hotels.
The bad news is that the hotels very close to the event know they will
fill.

I would find something now thats cancellable and then keep checking websites and calling. If you find a site on the web always call the hotel
and see if they will match it or beat it directly. Some hotels have a
10% off the price you find.
priceline can be a bit touchy but its well worth the trouble sometimes.

BTW--
I checked out a site www.biddingfortravel.com and theres not much listed
for that area thats recent. Its a site that shows priceline bids accepted and
the hotels.
If your going to be there 7 nights always ask for a weekly rate and get all rates standard rack, corporate, AAA, etc.

I think you can save a worthwhile amount staying 5-8 miles away.
The site is right off the interstate and some of the cheaper hotels
are closer towards Q-masters. You will be going there I imagine as
thats where the gambling takes place. Driving 5 miles or so is not that bad.
keep looking and I will do the same

Bazarus,

The Motel 6 will be open for the Open. They are closing on Sept 20th.

I never stayed there but have heard that if you want a basic, no frills room. Not the best hotel, but if you don't care, then go for it.

I can give you a lift, I can't drink :D

No luck so far...the average price around Greenbier area is $80, that include close by Roof Inn and Hampton Inn. Motel 6 is shutting down in september, but there is another one within about 8 miles for $320 for a week. Still I'd prefer something close by. Maybe there is someone who is looking for a roommate in Holliday Inn?

Priceline VA Beach hotels

I also recommend Priceline. I go to the VA beach area at least once a month and I always use priceline to get cheap hotel rooms. You can choose the area and the star level you want. I actually prefer the 2 star hotels over the 3 star and above because of the free parking and breakfast. Once you go to priceline.com, enter Virginia Beach or Chesapeake, VA as your city of destination and you will be given a choice as to the areas and star level. Chesapeake/Greenbrier will be one of the choices if you want to concentrate on that. However, if your bid does not get accepted, add areas such as VA Beach Pembroke, Norfolk Airport, Chesapeake/Bower's Hill, downtown Norfolk or Portsmouth. All of these are within 5 to 15 miles driving distance from Chesapeake/Greenbrier and within 10 to 30 minutes at the most driving time.

Click on this link and you will see the different areas you can bid on and the map of the area:

http://www.priceline.com/hotels/Lan...AC400011AC200408050141382852c0896801&plf=pcln

Since the tournament will be held after the peak season (after labor day), based on my bidding experience, you will most probably get an excellent rate. For 2 star hotels like La Quinta, Fairfield Marriott, Days Inn, Comfort Inn, I have been able to get rooms from between $25 to $35 per night and these are weekend rates. For 3 star hotels like Norfolk Marriott and Sheraton Waterside, I have been able to get hotel rooms from $43 to $55 per night but then I seldom bid at the 3 star level because I do not like to pay for parking.

As someone has mentioned earlier, the www.biddingfortravel.com website can show you the prices that have been accepted. More specifically, click on this link:

http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelineandexpediabiddingfrm94

so you can view the latest on Virginia hotels. Click on the VA HOTEL LIST which is the first topic and you will be able to see the priceline hotels that have been accepting the bids for each area.

I've checked and thanx for that info. If this is going to work, than please let me know ASAP, before I take chances with Priceline or other sources.

take it from somebody who knows. the motel 6 there is an out and out dump. stayed there 1 night with my wife who is in a wheel chair and when she went towards the bathroom the wheel chair with her in it went right thru the floor.. Accor hotels who owns it keeps making promises that they were going to fix it. never did. And bring your own towels also. Thats what i would reccommend. I am staying at the red roof again this year..................mike

Hi Eric

I've checked the prize for Red Roof Inn and its about $80 a night. Is that correct? If so, than why don't you stay in Hilliday Inn? They have the same prize with discount for players.

Bazarus- I was just making a suggestion based on what you were looking for. After hearing cueball1950's review, maybe it wasn't a good idea. Sorry.

Mike- I'm staying at the Marriott/Fairfield Inn in VA beach. It's about 5 miles from Q Masters. It's a nice hotel and I don't have to drive back to the Convention Center. Seems like every year, after the matches are over, I wind up at Q Masters til the wee hours. I figure this year I'll stay in VA beach instead of driving back.
