Cheating Stories- The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly.

I say it because, especially when near the end of a tourney, just how fuggin' hard is it to just show up on time?

The worst is at the beginning of tourneys. It is supposed to start at 7, they say. Oh no, we've got a call from ______(A rating, of course) and he'll be here soon so we're gonna delay the start. Winners now go home after closing time...lots of fun for working guys....NOT!

80% of success is just showing up. It's not that hard.

OK I see what you mean ,,,but Im not talking about back road bar tournament. LMAO
If I remember right there was 156 entries and it took 2 days to play it out!!!
If I followed the rules ,,I would have won by forfeit ,,because the guy was not there on time.10 minutes late and the TD was ready to sign the win for me.And it would have been acceptable!!!

In these big tournaments ,,there's no such thing as ,,,lets wait for Bubba cause his car broke down. But I do know what you are saying for the smaller tournaments.

Actually, you're dead wrong. In all levels, up to pro (!), TD's will wait on top players when they're running late. It's been talked about plenty on here, and I have seen it firsthand in everything from a small bar tourney to state/regional events.

The following story happened to a friend at a special event tourney on Saturday and made me think of this thread. I wish I were talking about some run down "funsie" bar, but this room is quite the opposite.

It's hill- hill- which only matters in that it makes the ruling just a little more painful. Player A shoots a shot very softly. Player B stands up and asks if it was a foul, and Player A says yes.

Player B picks up the cb and is slowly looking around the table for the best angles. Player A suddenly stands up and says, 'No, wait- I must have hit a rail after the 3- it's not a foul!"

They agree to explain this to the room's official TD, who listens carefully to the full story at least twice. Player A never denies having said it was a foul when asked.

He determines the foul is on Player B for picking up the cb, and gives bih to Player A. He says he doesn't care that Player A said it was a foul and then retracted it later- he says that Player B shouldn't have touched the cb.

I should just start telling my opponents I fouled so I can then change my mind, get bih, and enjoy an immediate second turn at the table whenever I want.

That's sick!!!! And hard to believe anyone would judge this in this manner. Someone or everyone that even thinks this is the correct call has lost their minds.
Seen these type calls over and over again on here. Do the refs need more breaks???
Maybe after hours of making calls,,they lose common sense.

That is the most ridiculous call by the room's official TD I have ever heard of.

Ditto. It also seems to imply that Player A must always pick up the cue after a foul and hand it to Player B. That is, at no time can Player B pick up the cue even after asking and verifying that a foul had been comitted.

Edit: If it happened to me, I'd claim unsportsman like conduct and ask for loss of game (or at a minimum BIH like I should have had in the first place).

I'd like to hear stories about you being cheated or stories where you have cheated others, no matter what your reasons.

My story is about a very highly talented player who will remain anonymous for the time being. :D

I was playing pool with a very good player who was giving me an enormous spot at one pocket. It's been a long time ago and I don't remember the exact spot but it was a few balls as I recall. Anyway, I am giving the guy a run for his money and I can see he is feeling the pressure of the spot and know I have a small chance of winning. This guy seldom loses as he almost always matches up better than most.

I am in the process of running out and winning an important game on the hill and in the process of placing my bridge hand on the table and getting ready for the shot, I accidentally touch one ball and move it about one-half inch. I tell my opponent because in one pocket, your opponent has the right to put the object ball back where it was or to leave it where the moved ball lies. My opponent comes back over to put the ball back where it was originally and moves the moved object ball into a position so that I no longer have a shot at my hole. He moves the object ball a few inches from where it originally sat and I'm like waiting for him to say he is joking but only silence. Finally, I ask him nicely, if he is joking and he says he thinks that is where the object ball originally lay. I then tell him to go F*** himself and immediately quit, not paying and hoping he would attempt to collect for the set I quit on. I don't like outright cheaters and this guy is a known scoundrel who will do anything to win.

This isn't Father Joey asking you to tell your stories about your own personal cheating stories  but if you have one to share it could be fun to share them for posterity as well as the ones where you have been cheated; however if you tell one about yourself, I may offer my brand of absolution.

He cheats you, it's years ago, but your still talking about it ,still makes you angry when you think about and yet you still don't out this guy. WHY NOT How big is he?

This isint really cheating but it involves the three foul rule, which i think is fine in tournament play but when gambling i think its garbage in these circumstances:

Me and this dude were playing a cheap set $25 race to 5 9ball and its tied 4-4 he has a perfectly clear run out but decides to play 3 fouls on me...now i wasent worried about the $25 that aint nothing to me but i was so pissed off i almost didint pay him, but my dad didint raise me like that so i handed it over.

I know you can use the 3 foul if you want but i believe there is a time and a place for it and tied 4-4 with a open table aint it.

He accomplished 2 things in a hill-hill by doing it. 1) He got you angry enough to possibly affect your play. 2) He got the win.

I say its Bush league but others will say whatever it takes to get the cash. Bottom line is if your gambling expect it.

League night packed house and we are playing last years beginner league champs. I could hear CCR in my head, "Bad moon rising" when I saw their first shooter mirroring our shooters every move in his line of sight.

Our shooter asks, "Are we using the patch?"
Big country boy replys, "No we don't need it.
I chime in, "I want to use it!"
Everyone talks it over and
I am voted down.

So as the match goes I'm shooting pretty good and the gunner gang is getting an ass whoopin. It's the last round and they finally have an outside chance to win. From the break I'm running out and some drunk woman in the crowd is making snide remarks with my every shot.

I get to the 8 and its a tight pocket with an obsticle ball covering up some of the pocket. I bend down to table level to eye it up. I line it up and shoot it in. "FOUL!" Cries the drunk wench!

I frown and say, "Your not even playing!" She replies, "You pointed at that pocket with your stick you made it in the wrong pocket!" (In my mind I remember bending down not paying attention to my cue..maybe it did but I never pointed with it.)

The guy I'm playing yells, "Foul!" I give him the look...like really guy? As a team they say oyeah its a foul but we might give it to you.
Drunk wench is pissed and gets in my face calling me a cheater louder than the crowd that's talking all at once.

I raise my voice over the crowd and respond, "There was no foul and you can not call a foul...you weren't playing!
Big country boy interjects, "That's my mother...nobody raises there voice at my mother!"

The place goes quiet. I respond, "I apoligize...I'm done."
I put my stick away and left the building for everyone else to sort out.
Before I got out the door they gave in and gave me my win.

Great story!

I once played in a bar similar to that. This will be one of the UGLY stories.
A grizzled looking old man, unkempt, wearing overalls and just plain dirty looking is there with an even older looking woman with gray stringy, dirty hair, with a sweaty face and there are two young guys with them, who looked like they were the children to some of the people that played in the movie Deliverance. If you saw that movie, you know what I am talking about.

Anyway, the old shrew is constantly making lewd remarks and the old man is hawking her like he is ready to do the Big Nasty right there in the bar room. My team is trying to play the match but we can't get the two young, male inbreds to stop dirty dancing with one another. It wasn't a good night, but our team promised we would never play them again and we didn't. I gave up on the leagues shortly after that.

There is no ethic issue with him choosing to get you on 3 fouls. Maybe he wasn't as comfortable as you with the run or maybe he thought his chances were better going for 3 fouls. Whatever the case is it worked for him.... The fact you considered not paying him says something....

The guy isn't all bad and I don't see the need for outting him. He isn't that big or that bad. :p

It's just a story, dude.

No it doesnt, i havent stiffed anyone in my life and never will, and for $25 i wouldnt ruin my reputation even if i had one.

I wasent considering it but i was pissed and that feeling only lasted about 5 seconds.

I never said you stiffed anyone. I said you considered it.

I personally had nothing to do with the following cheat but I watched it go down on a big money game @ The Cue Ball in Salem, OR

2 Gentlemen were playing $500 a rack 8-ball, and everything was going fine. They were civil with one another etc.. Until one of them bent over the table for a shot and something fell out of his ear. Turned out his backer who was also his coach came up with the idea to use a wireless ear piece that would allow him to sit a few tables down and coach the player on shots etc.. Needless to say no money exchanged hands that I was aware of and the 2 were escorted out the back door. I was more surprised that it ended that way and no one was hurt givin' the reputation of the player who was cheated.

Who was it? I'd hate to think somebody's running around the area trying to pull this.. I'm a bit surprised nobody got hurt, too, especially over $500/rack.
