By cheating the pocket, do you mean just aiming for a particular side of the pocket, or do you mean a straight in shot, cheating the pocket to the side to create a slight angle? It's the same thing when I am not playing well and my brain is fuzzy, but when I am in dead stroke, they are two different things. The second one is something that needs to be done when you get somewhat out of line, and the first is just a natural flowing process for me.
When I am in stroke, which side of the pocket I use for the shot is all ready done before I get down on the shot. I see the shot, see my options for position, and I see a line I need the cueball to travel after I pocket the ball. I line up and aim according to that. I actually don't even think about what side of the pocket I am aiming at, it's just a natural 'feel' i get when I am in stroke. It's funny, I don't really pay attention to aim when I am in dead stroke. It seems like making the shot is already a given, and all I see is lines for position play. You make a good point.
