Checking the rack

If you have an outside agency racking the balls during tournament play (referee or what have you), is it considered offensive or bad etiquette to check their rack before you break? I'm asking because all the pro matches I've watched where the referee or "rack girl" racks the balls, the player never seems to check their rack. Personally, I check the rack no matter who racks it. If my own grandmother racks the balls for me, I'm gonna check it.

Went to a tournament several years ago - tables not the best. Young guy I was playing, checked the rack 3-4 times every time. We had to spend more time checking the rack than playing. Finally told him he could rack his own - I just wanted to play:smile::smile:

At the 2010 Women's World Championships they used the Majic rack with the referee racking. They take insults very seriously over there, but I saw Xaio Ting check the rack several times. As an added note I never saw one bad rack in all of the streaming that I saw.

The only time Ive never checked the rack was using a magic rack in a tourny....i knew they were frozen no matter who racked it...

I have played in tournaments with a neutral racker where it is written in the rules that you aren't allowed to check or dispute the rack. I hate that.

Thanks for the responses. Now I won't feel like an A-hole when I check the ref's rack.

Nothing worse then getting a slug rack. I go out of my way to give a
tight rack. Sometimes it's not easy when the spot has been taped in
the wrong place.
9 ball and 8 ball I'll check the head ball. Straight, 14/1 I'll
check the back row first. That's my right and yours. Don't mid in the
least.
Tournaments with a rack person, I may check one if allowed otherwise no.
